A must read for everyone involved or even interested in prophetic ministry Full of warnings and guidelines based on scripture, with practical examples demonstrating how individuals moving in false or fleshly prophetic giftings have severely damaged people s lives.I reread this book every couple years to stay humble and focused in seeking to truly hear the Lord before prophesying.

Bevere writes from experience and a Pentecostal perspective with considerable wisdom and insight He sites numerous examples of prophets , preachers, etc giving words of wisdom, prophecies, words of knowledge that have been shown in time to be erroneous He lists practical ways to discern whether a word from another, even given in an authoritative tone, is from God or not Genuine words of guidance will come from a position of humility, gentleness, through the Holy Spirit and be proven out i Bevere writes from experience and a Pentecostal perspective with considerable wisdom and insight He sites numerous examples of prophets , preachers, etc giving words of wisdom, prophecies, words of knowledge that have been shown in time to be erroneous He lists practical ways to discern whether a word from another, even given in an authoritative tone, is from God or not Genuine words of guidance will come from a position of humility, gentleness, through the Holy Spirit and be proven out in time to be accurate They will bring forth good fruit, not divorce or division or confusion He finds that false prophecies often appeal to people because they feed peoples secret desires and motivations for gain and promotion He warns about those who go about advertising their prophetic gifts and seek prestige Coming as I do from a non Pentecostal but evangelical background that believes deeply in the Word and the Spirit, many of the terms were unfamiliar to me The sting of Jezebel, etc In our circles and with our historical background in the great men of faith we would rather frame prophecy as guidance that we test by whether it is biblical, fits our gifts and abilities, demonstrates wisdom, has the stamp of other godly and wise men to affirm it In the multitude of godly counselors is safety There is much here with which all evangelicals can agree Non Pentecostals will learn from this book to beappreciative of that segment of the Body of Christ We all affirm, as he says on p158, the love of truth sharpens our discernment and keep us error free

I appreciated this book as a sound challenge to the anti screening of prophecies in the charismatic space especially at a time when everyone claimed to be speaking from God It was a good encouragement to be discerning.

This book is a fantastic look into how prophecy should be tested before it is simply received John Bevere tackles the incredibly difficult subject with passion and insight that could only come from God If you want to knowabout this controversial content, pick up this book, pray for guidance, and read some hard truths This book does not just cater to the selfish whims of man and the idea that all prophecy is from God Instead, Bevere explains with Scriptures and experiences from his li This book is a fantastic look into how prophecy should be tested before it is simply received John Bevere tackles the incredibly difficult subject with passion and insight that could only come from God If you want to knowabout this controversial content, pick up this book, pray for guidance, and read some hard truths This book does not just cater to the selfish whims of man and the idea that all prophecy is from God Instead, Bevere explains with Scriptures and experiences from his life and the lives of others in the church both true prophecy and false prophecy The damage that can be wrought from a false word of God is devastating and far reaching in the lives of those who blindly accept prophecy just because certain people say it or they say it with certain phrases This book has opened my eyes about how deceitful the heart of man can really be, and how some don t even know it This book convicted me in several areas of my own life The Lord really spoke to me in this book, and I would recommend it to any Christian who wants to learn to discern whether a prophetic word is truly from God or not This book is a good foundation by using the Word of God and painful experiences of deceit Wonderful, insightful book

Enjoyed this bookthan I expected to I think the church tends to gloss over many of Jesus warnings about being deceived Or, as a lifelong Christian, I say, It won t happen to me But Bevere shows how important it is that we are on our guard, testing the things we hear against God s Word The book started off strong, and the end got a little slower for me But overall, a good read.
