A great adventure story during the time of gold being discovered in California Starts in England as a young man sails to California Some adventures at sea but most are in California and in the gold fields Great close up and personal stories of what it was really like then but Ballantyne also has his touch of God and living the life of God even in the wilds And he also touches upon the attachment of gold and the ability of some to let go of that attachment even in the middle of the gold fever A great adventure story during the time of gold being discovered in California Starts in England as a young man sails to California Some adventures at sea but most are in California and in the gold fields Great close up and personal stories of what it was really like then but Ballantyne also has his touch of God and living the life of God even in the wilds And he also touches upon the attachment of gold and the ability of some to let go of that attachment even in the middle of the gold fever It was nice to step back from fatasy books into a well grounded book of reality in a early part of our history

This book was a slow start and mostly uninteresting It was certainly not what I was hoping it would be.
