I expected a lot from this text than I got I ve done shadow work for awhile, and while the author certainly gets in depth with dark moon deities and magickal work, I felt that the book focused overmuch on childhood trauma as a cause for a disrupted shadow self It is absolutely true and obvious that childhood trauma is a contributor to a disrupted, wounded, or unbalanced shadow self and of course these traumas must be addressed both mentally and spiritually The author did not explore any other contributors in this book, however, aside from religious conditioning, which she only touches upon briefly adulthood sexual abuse, divorce, deaths in the family or of a spouse or child, bullying in either childhood, adolescence, or adulthood , and many other contributors to a wounded shadow self are not even mentioned For those who are specifically looking to do shadow work and healing related to childhood trauma and abuse, this text may provide exactly what they are lo...

In the Shadow of 13 Moons turned into the Shadow of 40 Moons for me I could not stay on track with the monthly exercises, and they did not make much of an impression on me.I think shadow work and exploration of the self is crucial to my own growth as a witch and as a person, but this book did not do much to take me further in that pursuit. Some of the exercises were alright, and I think that if I were just getting my bearings with this kind of work I might have found it helpful What did not work for me was the use of widdershins ritual actions and movement I can write ceremonies all day and enjoy it, but I could not make myself compose and perform a backwards rite It s anathema to what I was initially taught and have practiced for years It s a deal breaker, because I can t use it to change my consciousness and narrow my focus on what I need to do It jars me right out of that head space Also, I was never afraid of the dark, and I had a really good childhood, so I felt like I wasn t part of the book s intended audience A lot of the intended personal exploration is centered around overcoming one s fear of the dark by uncovering the underlying reasons for that fear Many of those reasons come from childhood experiences or trauma Since I lack a fear of the dark, ...

This is actually a very good book for anyone wishing to better understand their shadow It is very elementary, especially in the beginning However, the exercises are worth it for any level of shadow work I have enjoyed this book and expect that I will continue to do so as I revisit the exercises.
