I think that Ms Frank selected a wide range of well known poets when she was creating the collection of year long poems for this books Poets include John Updike, Langston Hughes, Melville Cane, and manyI was also overtaken by the paintings by Thomas Locker created for each poem that showed the seasons and the movement of the poems of the Hudson River Valley I also appreciated that there was a person in each poem, although very small, so small you couldn t tell their emotions, but you g I think that Ms Frank selected a wide range of well known poets when she was creating the collection of year long poems for this books Poets include John Updike, Langston Hughes, Melville Cane, and manyI was also overtaken by the paintings by Thomas Locker created for each poem that showed the seasons and the movement of the poems of the Hudson River Valley I also appreciated that there was a person in each poem, although very small, so small you couldn t tell their emotions, but you got a sense of how big everything is in comparison to the person in the painting. The two poems that really caught my attention were Daffodils, by William Wordsworth, and The River, by Charlotte Zolotow In Daffodils, May, I loved how Mr Wordworth compared the narrator as one that was wondering like a cloud Then when the narrator sees the daffodils under the tree the narrator gives them personification, dancing in the breeze. In The River Ms Zolotow talks about the river and it relationship with the sun During the day it holds the suns light, but as the sun starts to set the river reflects the colors of the setting sun Even without the picture, if you have ever been near a river during a full day you can remember that as the sun is rising and during the day the river reflects the sun Then, as the sun starts to set it reflects those vivid oranges, reds, and yellows in July.I would recommend this book for grades 5 12 The reason I would recommend this book for this age is that they will appreciate the paintings that go with each monthly poem They will also be able to enjoy the words and descriptions that each other uses in their poem These poems are alsosuffocated, so these students can talk about these poems from a primary level to ain depth discussion.Poetry, Nature, Months, Thomas Locker, Josette Frank, Poetry Collection, Hudson River Valley Grade Recommendation 5 12
