This book was written in the 90’s and it’s not timeless I got tired of reading about ‘choosing’ to become a lesbian and losing their straight life As if being gay is a choice and you can only be attracted to one gender Again once I realized it was written in the 90’s I wasn’t as upset because I know that’s what was thought back then But I didn’t feel the need to finish the book

I’m not sure if the editors of this collection of interviews deliberately chose women with similar histories alcoholism drug abuse domestic abuse and similar perspectives on their lesbian relationships most seem to feel that it was less a biological characteristic than a conscious choice It may also be the interview style itself—each woman was clearly given the same set of uestions to answer regardless of her circumstances—that leeches the uniueness and color from the voices here Whatever it is the result is a wholly uninteresting treatment of an otherwise interesting subject
