    This book is a little bit dated but it's good nonetheless I would supplement all of the implementation discussions in this book with those found in Gockenbach's Understanding and Implementing the Finite Element Method As for discussing the theory of finite elements I feel like it really helps to have a tiny bit of functional analysis in your background The language of functional analysis makes it easier to discuss some of the major analytical results of finite element methods and so this book is necessarily a little lengthier in some of its explanations than it needs to beAll that said it remains a solid book even decades after publication
