Bridges A Daphne White Novel is a delightful story of three women in their early forties who have been best friends since college The story takes place over four or five days in New York as they come together to celebrate the engagement of SkylarWhile Skylar has obviously done very well she is also kind and generous and wants to give her two friends a great time And they do and while they travel around New York letting us in on some of the great aspects of this city they renew their friendship and deepen itThis is an excellent exploration of the friendship of women at its best They are there for one another genuinely care for one another and sometimes get it wrong One aspect that I really loved was the feelings that arose especially for Daphne when she compared herself to Skylar and found herself wanting and filled with self doubt What she does with that self doubt was so real and what many of us most likely do What struck me though was the honest communication between them that ensured that the friendship would endureAll three women are likeable yet I probably liked Daphne the most and that may be due to the fact it is from Daphne's point of view I felt she was so genuine and learned so much about herself and the need to persevere and not give up hope in her desire to have a novel published However I was thrilled for KC and her news and really Skylar was wonderful too and I loved how she reaches out to her soon to be step daughter Sloane That relationship pointed out that we can never judge what is going on for a person unless of course they tell us

Please note that I received this book from the author via NetGalley in return for a honest review I previously read the first book in this series Wait for the Rain and really enjoyed it you can see my review here for Wait for the Rain at Goodreads So I was happy to see that Maria Murnane had a follow up with Daphne Skylar and KC The only reason why I gave this four stars and not five was that I wish that Murnane had explored going with another POV with this one like Skylar I would have really enjoyed that And I thought the ending with things working out for Daphne would have been better if Murnane had actually kept up with the theme of how hard it is to break into being a published writer In Bridges it's been about a year since our 3 Musketeers got together and had a vacation in the Caribbean After the three women have a video conference call and Skylar lets them know that she is engaged and she wants to fly them to NYC in order to celebrate with her Daphne is happy to celebrate Skylar's good news but hoped that she would have good news of her own to share She took a year and started to write her own novel based on her adventures with her friends in the Caribbean as well as the relationship she found after her divorce Unfortunately Daphne is getting a lot of rejection letters and is worried that maybe her dream of being a published author will never be realized And she doesn't know if she is going to be able to fake being happy surrounded by her two friends who are the moon about different things in their lives at this point I have to say that once again Maria Murnane nails female friendships I really enjoyed how she showcased them in this book and her Waverly Bryson series A lot of the conversations and ability to read your friend when something is off reminds me of my togethers with my two best friends I also felt for Daphne while reading this book Feeling stuck after a divorce and in a so so relationship with a guy with her daughter about to go to college leaves Daphne at a crossroads With her best friend seeming to hit pay dirt and finding the one and living the high life in New York would be a lot to take in and be happy for at the same time What I liked most about Daphne in this one is that she comes to a couple of different realizations about herself and also about letting go of things with regards to her daughter I have to say that I love Skylar the most in this group Maybe because I am dancing towards 40 and at this point I have not met one guy who has made me even think about forever I loved that hard nosed Skylar who had a dating rotation fell hard and fast for what appears to be a really great guy And I got serious house envy reading about how her home was set up I can get why Daphne was jealous KC is still the uber cheerleader who loses her shine a bit in this one No spoilers but there's a reason We also get introduced to a best friend in NYC of Skylar's that I would love to read about Her dating adventures had me laughing out loud Maybe because I have a few stories as well and I think that this fictional character has gone out with real life guys i have went out with too We also get some reappearances of secondary characters in this one that Daphne knows Once again no spoilers I will say that I was happy with how things resolved though The writing was really good I have to say that it was just nice to read about a group of women being themselves with each other You can see why these three women have been friends since college And I am very excited to see if there will be another story starring them in the near future The flow was really good This was a pretty short book for me so I was able to finish it in under about 3 hours all together The setting of New York really comes alive We have Hamilton references discussion of the High Line in New York it's really fun to do if you have a chance Shake Shack which had me hungry and just a dozen or so references that shows that the author has been in the city and has explored these places It really makes the book come alive Due to this i emailed one of my friends and now we are trying to set up a trip sometime this year to go to NYC and catch a show Not Hamilton I do not have Hamilton money unlike Skylar The ending was great though as I said above I think it would have been better without the neatly wrapped ending Not every book has to be wrapped up in a bow at the end Or at least I prefer it when they are not

I’m joining in again with Throwback Thursday which was created by my good friend Renee at It’s Book Talk She started this weekly feature as a way to highlight old favorites and read books that have already been published I have so many older books on my TBR that get ignored in favor of review copies and I figure participating in Throwback Thursday will help me to read at a least one older title a weekThis is the second book in a series that follows three college friends now in their forties but still with strong ties to each other I fell in love with Daphne Skylar and KC when I read Wait for the Rain I just loved their uniue bond and how authentic their friendship came through thanks to Murnane’s realistic writing style It was awesome catching up with these ladies and seeing what they’ve been up to since the last bookThis follows them during one weekend in NYC to celebrate the fact that Skylar is engaged Much as in the first book there was plenty of humor and heart There’s a lot of inspiration to be found here tons of female empowerment and as much as Daphne has grown since Wait for the Rain she’s still figuring out how to navigate through life as a single woman who’s daughter is about to head off to college This was another light breezy read that’s perfect to settle down with for an afternoon I hope Murnane has plans for another book because I’m really enjoying seeing these characters learn and grow

I was so excited to read about this trio of ladies again Bridges picks up about a year after Wait for the Rain ends and this time KC and Daphne are heading to New York City to celebrate Sklar’s engagement Daphne has been submitting a manuscript to publishers and having a long distance dating relationship with Derek KC has been falling in love with her new granddaughter and Skylar has bought a new home with her fiance Jack but struggling to connect with his college aged daughter Once again as they reconnect they’re reluctant to share some things with one another but still have a wonderful time and enjoy their incredible friendshipDaphne definitely started out much happier in Bridges versus in Wait for the Rain After returning from the last girls’ vacation she decided to write her first novel as well as has been keeping in touch with Derek Unfortunately her happiness seems to go down hill after arriving in New York although I won’t go into that because of spoilers Bubbly and energetic KC arrives in New York incredibly different than the last time we saw her – but again I can’t tell why Skylar is head over heels for her new fiance but thinks that her future stepdaughter Sloane hates her She spends a lot of time trying to win Sloane over before finally understanding Sloane and her life My favorite character in this novel is Skylar’s friend Krissa She’s single and dates all of the time which leads to endless hilarious tales of the men she meets I loved everything about her especially just her overall style of dialogue I personally think that she deserves her own book – hint hint Oh – and don’t forget that Clay was from New York Once again I’m so impressed with Murnane’s writing style and dialogue that literally pulls you into the novel and into the moment While reading you can feel the characters emotions whether embarrassment anger sadness or joy Some things were predictable in this novel and some were completely unexpected but once again Maria Murnane has written a realistic story about very relatable characters I love this group of ladies and the silly things that they say and do but this is not a picture perfect story about a girls weekend in New York City There are real emotions celebrations arguments disappointments and so on I do have to say I’m not sure that I loved KC in this novel because she seemed so different than her personality in Wait for the Rain but I still loved the novel and was disappointed when I realized I had reached the ending I just recently discovered this author and after reading two of her novels over the weekend I can proudly say I’m hooked thanks to the author and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review

Bridges in the second Daphne White novel by Maria Murnane picking up where Wait for the Rain leaves off However Murnane provides plenty of backstory so you can easily read Bridges as a stand alone novel In the year since Daphne and her best friends Skylar and KC celebrated their 40th birthdays on the Caribbean island of St Mirika she has moved on from her divorce and embraced the promise of a new beginning at this stage of her life She is in a long distance relationship with Derek who also is a divorced parent but importantly she has embarked on the writing career she gave up nearly two decades ago when she became a wife and mother Daphne has written her first novel sent it to three dozen agents and is eagerly waiting for her career as a published author to take offShe is reunited with Skylar and KC in New York City for a girls’ weekend over the July 4th holiday to celebrate Skylar’s recent engagement The news came as a shock to both Daphne and KC as Skylar was always so focused on her career and never planned to settle down But KC has a surprise for them as well Meanwhile Daphne begins to again uestion her future when the rejection emails start coming in especially as Skylar’s success and wealth is on full displayOnce again Murnane has crafted an enjoyable story about the power of female friendship This time she added tension between the women to emphasize the ups and downs in every relationship the insecurities we all feel from time to time and the healing that comes with heart to heart talks and forgiveness She brings back some of the secondary characters from the first novel and adds Skylar’s NYC friend Krissa an attorney who enthralls them with her hilarious online dating stories and Sloane Skylar’s intimidating soon to be stepdaughter Murnane does a fantastic job keeping these stories lighthearted humorous and most importantly believable I really hope there is a next book in the series as I’m not ready to let go of these characters just yetReview posted on Diary of an EccentricI received a free copy of this book for review

This is the second book about Daphne White and even though you can read it as a stand alone I think it's a good idea to learn about Daphne's life from the first book Wait for the RainDaphne KC and Skylar meet in New York City to celebrate Skylar's engagement They all have big news Daphne has submitted her just completed first book to 36 agents KC is pregnant and Skylar after years of being single is engaged to the perfect man for her As the friends tour NYC and talk with each other the reveal their worries to each other Daphne has been getting rejection letters KC is worried about being a mother in her 40s with a child the same age as her step grandchild and Syklar is concerned that she will be unable to settle down in married life despite how wonderful her fiancé isThis is a wonderful book about friendship between long time friends It's always refreshing to read book with main characters who are over 40 and this one fits the billThanks to the author for a copy of this book to read and review All opinions are my own

Friendship is what it is all about in Bridges Daphne Skylar and KC are truly the three musketeers The bond they share lasts a lifetime A fun new addition is Skylar's friend Krissa She was so entertaining; especially with her dating horror stories She is the poster woman for online dating sites gone wrong Yet Krissa is a good sport She could laugh about herself The three musketeers brought the laughs and love even in this book The I hang out with the three ladies the I want to be part of their group In this book I felt like I really got to know each of the women better Hearing Skylar's new about her engagement I took was shock as I did not think any guy could settle Skylar down but meeting her fiancé I understood how her did it These books are like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but for women As KC would say I LOVE THIS BOOK It is a must must recommended read that will have you laughing After you have finished this book you will have felt like you were hanging out with your best girlfriends

It’s a piece of news Daphne never expected to hear Her globe trotting friend Skylar who vowed never to get married is engaged Time to celebrate in Manhattan—Skylar’s treat of course After years scaling the corporate ladder she can than afford it Daphne arrives in NYC with news of her own—the novel she’s finally finished appears to be going nowhere but the trash bin of every publishing house around She’s devastated but plans to keep her disappointment under wraps something that becomes trickier when she sees Skylar’s spectacular apartment Could her life have been like this if she’d chosen a different path? What Daphne doesn’t know is she’s not the only one with a secret Skylar and their friend KC are also holding something back but what? As the trip unfolds the truth about each woman emerges along with tears And laughter And loveMy Thoughts Who doesn’t love a great friends’ weekend? I definitely couldn’t wait to curl up with these three college friends for a Manhattan getaway to celebrate something special and to reconnectBridges was the kind of story that resonated with me as I have always enjoyed the special connections that I’ve felt with college friends Add in the perfect setting of Manhattan and there is nothing better Girl talk sharing secrets and even trying new thingsDaphne was my favorite character primarily because she was a single mother and an aspiring author I loved watching her experience her first trip to Manhattan I could see Skylar’s world from her perspective including visualizing the fabulous apartment that she shared with her fiancé James I walked the streets with her and her friends From the Brooklyn Bridge to the cute boutiues and flea markets I felt as though I was along for the rideI was a little intimidated by Skylar and even by her soon to be stepdaughter Sloaneuntil one night when Daphne lost her cool and let Skylar have it It was inevitable that old feelings of envy might creep into their moments together but those conflicts made them all feel very real When envy reared its head the air was cleared and they grew even closerEvents unfolded in unexpected ways and by the end of the weekend I wanted More of the friends and their uniue connection and about Daphne’s writing experiences 5 starsMy e ARC came to me from the authorpublisher via NetGalley
