Don t buy this book It just presents the sources that Andrew Bostom wants you to see One example Yusuf Al Quaradawi is represented by nothan two quotes It s not that I have much sympathy for Al Quaradawi, but if you want to understand the man and what he thinks about jihad you needthan those two quotes The quotes are of course selected to put him in the worst light possible, which is probably Bostoms goal Bostom doesn t even try to understand islam or muslims in general, but he Don t buy this book It just presents the sources that Andrew Bostom wants you to see One example Yusuf Al Quaradawi is represented by nothan two quotes It s not that I have much sympathy for Al Quaradawi, but if you want to understand the man and what he thinks about jihad you needthan those two quotes The quotes are of course selected to put him in the worst light possible, which is probably Bostoms goal Bostom doesn t even try to understand islam or muslims in general, but he should at least try to represent those islamic thinkers he has selected in such a way that it is possible to understand what they think even if Bostom doesn t try to analyze them himself If the book could be used to get an understanding of what Al Quaradawi and other thinkers think, it could be worth something As it is, the book isn t even worth the paper it was written on, and it certainly isn t worth wasting bookshelf space on This is much too expensive firewood

Despite its cumbersome and intimidating format, this book is indispensable to anyone who cares to know the truth about the wicked doctrine of Jihad, and all its attendant institutions Dr Bostom, an accomplished medical scholar and teacher, basically lets the theorists of Jihad, dating back to the very infancy of Islam, speak for themselves, reprinting in English translation a mass of documentary evidence He also lets the victims of this most terrible of all imperial instruments speak for them Despite its cumbersome and intimidating format, this book is indispensable to anyone who cares to know the truth about the wicked doctrine of Jihad, and all its attendant institutions Dr Bostom, an accomplished medical scholar and teacher, basically lets the theorists of Jihad, dating back to the very infancy of Islam, speak for themselves, reprinting in English translation a mass of documentary evidence He also lets the victims of this most terrible of all imperial instruments speak for themselves

Like Bat Ye or s books, this one covers similar topics with a similar approach it shows how Muslims have treated non Muslims throughout the history of Islam, demonstrating with brutal clarity that Islam is most definitely NOT a religion of peace and tolerance Not an easy read, but worth it.

Ever dreamt of becoming a historian A historian say, of Jihad Then this is the book to read.It offers source material for the historian of the Jihad, slightly pre sorted Some comments already added. How about the choice of materials for study Not the typical orientologists angle of view It also offers views of the victims of the Jihad, which is untypical.
