This book was given to me before we had our oldest son I love how it says to come back and read it every few years or so I have two boys now and love the book even When I get to a new stage with our boys I read it again

If you like a lot of popcorn fiction or non fiction then this book is for you If you appreciate tongue in cheek slapstick humour with heavily self deprecative overtones regarding family members then you'll love this Unfortunately I'm not of the slap stick variety and this was chockful of back hand diva slaps It entails different anecdotes about Meurer raising his boys and sometimes he uses these scenarios as Christian examplesIt's almost like a Christian version of a mockumentary diary It was too full of slapstick humour for me as well being a bit vague at times I was trying to work out if it was a memoir a humorist novel or a parenting book However what REALLY annoyed me was his freuent use of technical grammar capitals and italics should not be used that muchI understand that it was for emphasis but there is such a thing as a reader's imaginationOverall it's not bad and if you like this type of humour I could see why it would be a highly rated book I just couldn't relate One thing that did stand out was how he said paraphrasing here If the disciples could misunderstand Jesus' parables then your kids could also misunderstand you

Not a lot of shock value but parts were laugh out loud funny The christian analogies held were interesting and I would say I enjoyed this book although a uick read

  4. Kristine Kristine says:

This is a funny book It has a little bit of a religious tone to it which is fine but something to know ahead of time It's a uick read

  5. Genevieve Genevieve says:

It's nice to know that my boy is normal

  6. Kristen Kristen says:

If you have sons then this is a really good book

  7. Mel Mel says:

This is a must read for anyone with Boys

As the father of 6 young boys and having been one once upon a time myself the truth of the matter rings true throughout the book With lighthearted easy to read humor and countless examples drawn from his own experience the author brings across some rather insightful and universal truths through his slightly slapstick writing style I have yet to dismantle any video games and flush them down the toilet however As for the religious bent of the book I found his worldview to echo my own so I have nothing bad to say there though those whose chosen faith does not align with the author's may find issue with the strong Christian undertone of the read To them I say write your own book or find one written by an author who sees things your way No need to disparage a man who writes what he believes Overall 5 stars for a read light and easy enough for a parent in the midst of raising boys to get through in what little free time they can manage yet deep enough to make one think and maybe even impart a little wisdom that was waiting just out of reach to be discovered

I purchased this book last year on a clearance sale I don't have a whole lot to say it was a short bookHonestly I figured it wouldn't contain anything too deep I did enjoy some of the storiesthey were funny If you are looking for parenting advice this is a book you should probably avoidI have sons I found myself a little annoyed that the author continued to compare himself to his young sons I appreciate the desire to want to have fun but doesn't the world have enough grown men who still act like little boys? We need MEN My other issue with this book was what seemed to be the use of manipulation and bribery as a parenting skill If you are looking for something of substance to read I would pass this book on the shelf I did give it two starsif you are looking for something lighthearted where parenting is concerned you might enjoy this book

The Hair Raising Joys of Raising Boys is a very cute book for mothers of boys particularly Christian mothers It's a very uick read and would make a great gift for mothers of boys newborn to high school ageMeurer is funny except when he jokes about people from Omaha which is where I'm from He tells stories about his boys with which most parents can relate but he also has a deeper message throughout the book Our children learn from what we do not what we say and the years we spend raising them are the setting the foundation for their lives as adults Parenthood brings many challenges and great responsibility Meurer will make you laugh about all of it but will encourage you at the same time
