I thought that The Promise would be as dark and as suspenseful than her previous book The Lair It was not the case at all The Promise is part of the Sinner’s Grove series which is multi genre Historical fiction and Contemporary Suspense This time we go back in time and visiting San Francisco A massive earthuake almost destroys all of San Francisco in 1906 The Promise is following Charlotte Lindemann and Benjamin Tilson that are both in the city at that time but living this event from a different perspective Benjamin is in the army while Charlotte is along with her younger sister Berry at her aunt house When the earthuake hit a part of Charlotte’s aunt house collapsed and they had to run outside for their lives Benjamin has been asked to go help the survivors and on its way he stopped at their house Berry was upset because she left her precious doll inside it was crafted by her mother that has died Charlotte’s aunt was refusing to leave her house because that was where all of her memories were Benjamin was able to convince Berry and her aunt to leave with Charlotte and off they went to the temporary military camp Charlotte is a strong character She took the lead to make sure that her sister and aunt would follow her and be safe She is able to think straight and make a uick decision that has saved their life She is in touch with her emotions and is following her gut feeling She is like a second mother to Berry Benjamin is loyal and when he is making a promise he makes sure that he is keeping it He is a perfect balance between emotions and logic This character is also of service always ready to help those in needs even if he has to get into a fight to succeed He is missing his family back at home and he has a soft spot for Berry She reminds him of his young sister and he is doing all that he can to make her happy His stubbornness is serving him well that's how he was able to track down Charlotte and her family Historical fiction is uite difficult to master and AB Michaels has done a wonderful job at it I felt that I was there living the earthuake seeing the flames and the destruction of the city I am impressed with her abilities to make us feel the emotions of the characters It has that je ne sais uoi that is speaking directly to my heart It is a story of faith love and family Those values are very important to me and that what we need in regards to the current event A story that is uplifting and shows us that there will always be someone ready to help us out when we go through a difficult time or a natural disaster Also it is a story that is reminding us to listen to our gut feelingsIf you love historical fictionromance I definitely recommend this bookI was gifted this book by Jeep Diva in exchange for an honest review

Warm touching romance set during the the massive destruction of the 1906 San Francisco earthuake There was an emotional connection to the characters and their interconnection with the the people things memories and duty surrounding them The characters are well developed along with the events and descriptions that were contained within I enjoyed getting to know and understand Ben and Charlotte They both had going on in their lives and they both pushed to see it through to the end Lovers of historical fiction would find this a fitting read centered around the San Francisco earthuake of 1906 Lovers of romance will find the appeal in the set up and connecting pieces between Ben and Charlotte Putting it all together for historical romance lovers would like a fresh hot glazed donuts and a very fresh hot cup of coffee on a chilly rainy day in front of a roaring fire This ARC was provided via Tasty Book Tours in exchange for an honest review

I have a deep abiding love for historical books When I was asked if I would read and review this book I jumped at the chance especially as it was set in a time period that I wasn’t that knowledgeable aboutSan Francisco is rocked by a powerful and deadly earthuake the morning of April 18 1906 Thousands are left homeless while thousands perish in the rubble The United States Army moves in uickly after the uake to keep order and peace in the aftermath including putting out fires fixing water mains and creating a large and orderly tent city on the grounds of the Presidio to house as many homeless people as they possibly couldI was fascinated by the fact that the tents were set up in districts and that the lanes between sections had street names Shop owners uickly set up shop where they could to sell goods and there was even a restaurantpubI found the history that Michaels incorporated into the story line to be powerful In less than 200 pages she is able to weave what should be an impossible love story among the tragedy that has hit a once booming cityCharlie is a strong female lead who uickly takes charge not only of her sister but of her aunt who refuses to leave her home because she can’t bear to be away from the memories of her deceased husband and young son She falls instantly in love with Ben the corporal who happens upon the women after Marget’s house is basically destroyedYoung Berry seemingly steals the “show” from the love story that is developing between Ben and Charlie as she believes with a child’s faith that Ben will not only find Miss Evie the rag doll that her mother made her before her death but that he will find the women wherever they end upI cheered on Ben as he was able to face insurmountable odds to not only locate the doll but to also do what he can to find the women believing that Charlie is his One all the while keeping the peace amidst the wide ensuing panic and being honor bound to stick his nose where it doesn’t always necessarily belongI was not fond of Richard Charlie’s suitor back home as he seemed to like playing Janie his and Charlie’s childhood friend and Charlie against each other Charlie is sure that Janie is in love with Richard and he is hellbent to make Charlie his wife and basically control everything that will happen in their lives down to the number of children they will haveMarget I both felt sorry for her and wanted to throttle her I could appreciate her depression over losing her husband and son but when she was bossy over the girls I wanted to pop her upside the head with her cane Thankfully Berry steps up and puts their aunt in her placewho doesn’t seem to mindI enjoy reading about people who fall in love instantaneously and know that they’ve found their Oneprobably because as soon as I looked at my husband I knew that he would be the one who I’d spend the rest of my life with and twenty one years later I am glad that I went with my instinct Things don’t work themselves out immediately there’s plenty of obstacles to stand in the way of them but where there’s a will there’s a wayI would love to know about Amos and Jennie as they are perfect secondary charactersI highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read the others in this seriesOf Note Coarse language fighting kissing scenes but no open or closed door love scenesDisclaimer I received a review copy in exchange for my honest review All opinions are my own

I can't imagine being in the middle of such a horrific mess like a massive earthuake ScaryIt's 1906 in San Francisco and Charlotte Lindermann and her sister Berry are visiting their aunt in San Francisco when the earthuake hits A chance meeting with Army corporal Benjamin Tilson makes them both wish they met in better circumstances but when Ben promises to find Berry's doll in the wreckage of their aunt's house Charlie just hopes she'll someday see him againwith or without the doll All of them will have to survive the massive destructive aftermath if they have any chance of finding each other again THE PROMISE A STORY OF THE UAKE is a nice uick read It wasn't really my kind of story it was heavy on the sweet and and not so much on the sex but it was still nicely written and paced well I couldn't really get behind the whole I met her for about 20 minutes during a stressful time don't know a thing about her including her last name but I've fallen in love with her storyline Those take some serious finessing to pull off and it just didn't work for me in this case The misunderstandings annoyed me as they went on and on and I honestly just couldn't connect with either Charlie or Ben and their supposed strong desire for each other Bottom Line I'm sure fans of sweet sex free historical romances will enjoy this but for me not so much See at See at

This is the third book in The Golden City series I did not like this book as much as I enjoyed the first two This short novel is basically a love story set in 1906 San Francisco during and after the great earthuake This book is a very uick read and it does give additional information regarding the series however the main characters are all new I am going to give the series a break for a few books and then I will try #5 in the series

Part of the Sinner's Grove series The Promise is a heart warming tale of love and hope set against the devastating earthuake in San Francisco in 1906 Charlotte 'Charlie' Lindemann is in San Francisco with her young sister 'Berry' Beryl They are staying with their widowed aunt Marget who's health and mobility has suffered since the death of her husband and son Away from home it's a time of reflection for eighteen year old Charlie Her sweetheart Richard Klausen wants to announce their engagement but she's not so sure of how she feels about the man she's known most of her life The uake changes everything when amid the chaos she sees a soldier who's kindness and looks take her breath away Benjamin 'Ben' Tilson left his homestead in Oregon to become become a soldier Now aged twenty three he's only five months away from civilian life again The only thing he knows about his future is that he wont be working on the farm After a night out resulting in a fight he and a friend miss the last ferry back to their company's barracks so bed down in the Army stables The noise of spooked horses awakens them near dawn and alerts them to what is about to happen Earthuake The ensuing mayhem brings Ben face to face with a young woman who's looks literally take his breath away With a promise to fulfil he doesn't know if he will ever see her again but determination despite the desperate time spurs him on  Why did he ask if I was the one?  Because you are she said You are the one A beautiful love story interwoven with fascinating historical facts the author creates vivid imagery with words that transported me back in time bringing the story to life This is the first book I have read by this author although I am aware of the other books in this series I own two and now I need to bring them to the top of my TBR list because The Promise has reminded me why I was drawn to this multi genre series in the first place The writing is sublime the protagonists are strong showing depth of their character during a time of adversity Yet the story is bursting with hope which develops into an overwhelming sense of love conuers all Lastly as a keen cook and baker any novel that mentions food and then adds recipes at the end deserves an extra star arc generously received courtesy of the author via Tasty Book Tours

The Promise by AB Michaels is a heartwarming tale that proves if love is meant to be it will be Our main characters Ben and Charlie are both strong and determined When they meet sparks fly But the timing couldn't be worse For a story where our lovely couple really don't spend too much time together throughout I found this story endearing I enjoyed Charlie's spunkiness yet her vulnerability was sweet Ben is hunky and a true hero He does his job as a soldier but does it with heart and the desire to help those weaker Their journey towards their love is not an easy one the aftermath of a major earthuake isn't easy and they discover just how hard it is to find and keep true love when faced with obstacles beyond their control The secondary characters are easy to like even Marget eventually And Berry is sweet and captures the heart of all I adored her candidness and ability to reach even the most shuttered hearts Ms Michaels has written a tale that not only shows the reader the power of love but the hardships that follow a natural disaster This is a story of heart determination strength and family For a sweet and uplifting tale that proves love can survive all check this one out received copy for honest review

The Promise A Story of the uake is the latest book the Sinner’s Grove series As with all the books this can be read as a standaloneThe story follows Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Lindemann and Corporal Benjamin ‘Ben’ Tilson in the immediate aftermath of the earthuake and a chance encounter that will change their lives foreverIt is a testament to the author’s writing that I felt as if I was actually there; transported back in time and experiencing everything with the characters All the sights sounds and even smells were so vivid The despair devastation and trepidation of what was to come leapt off the pages and I ran the full gamut of emotions as I was readingYet for me at the heart of the story was love and hope The love of family and friendship How in just one instant it can all be taken away from you or in that same moment you can find what you never even realised you were looking for Added to which the hope of things to come and new beginningsCharlie sums it up perfectly what Ben means to her“Because you are” she said simply “You are the one”Please one click this story today I promise you you won’t be disappointed
