This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here Let me preface this by saying the concept of this book might have worked better for me if I had been familiar with the other books in the series.I ve met both authors Both are smart guys There are rave reviews on the back of the book from authors I respect calling this book insightful And yet I feel like we read different books Usually I read to learn new perspectives and insights, but so much of this didn t jive with my B2B business experience that I felt like I was reading from a paralle Let me preface this by saying the concept of this book might have worked better for me if I had been familiar with the other books in the series.I ve met both authors Both are smart guys There are rave reviews on the back of the book from authors I respect calling this book insightful And yet I feel like we read different books Usually I read to learn new perspectives and insights, but so much of this didn t jive with my B2B business experience that I felt like I was reading from a parallel dimension 1 The whole book is a list of big company systems created to interact with B2C customers, most of them retail Zero actionable takeaways or how to start using systems for smaller businesses or via the B2B world or even a non retail environment And the 9 take aways at the end were misplaced for flow, generic and lacking applicability Technology has paved the way for every company to knowabout their customers Really What technology Because all the tech cited in the book is pretty much proprietary to the specific company citated 89% of companies expect to compete mostly on the basis of customer service What Are those B2B companies Retail B2C There is a huge difference.2 I hated the layout Citations at the bottom of the page like a college paper instead of at the back in a section with a bit of summary Lack of summaries per section The chapters were so unfocused, it really would ve helped to know what the point was The single pages on the left The extra pointless pages The quotes by only men There was 1 by a woman, but it was her and a man, so Ridiculously long author bios3 The editing is not well done The lunar surface of the moon is there a surface on the moon that isn t lunarBest seller um,Best Seller The king was notorious uhm, no The words that would have worked with the rest of the awesome deeds explained are renowned or famous A paragraph that starts out about Izzy s Ice Cream as a declarative sentence and then is really about Honest Cafe A clear misplacement or missed segue The writing is unevenA Zero explanation of what TeeTurtle is versus a full explanation of what Stitch Fix is That is a structure issue since they appear in the same chapter.B Bait and switch section titles like the FitBit Enables Personal Behavior Change which was all about customer service and zero studies or notes about actual customer behavior changes due to FitBit usage.C You are 132 pages in before the prophets in the subtitle are invoked and the usage seems inaccurate. If the profits in the subtitle had been noted off set, perhaps for each example, that would ve rounded it out a bit .4 The book, like some college papers, is mainly a series of quotes from articles and citations of other people s research but little direct evidence from their own experience or original conclusions That s why it read like a college paper to my ear Plus I began to doubt some of the research citations I really don t buy the Forrester Research that said millenials don t have money to spend for retail and retailers should not court them Like I m going to look that up Because even 2016, there were millennials in their late thirties With jobs And life responsibilities And that s a huge cohort to just dismiss And the people at Forrester are usually pretty smart This just seems mis written Finally, on page 158, they refer to the Blue Goldfish Project I believe that was the first mention The book should ve led with that and explained the project then all the article quotes and citations may have made sense.Maybe it me Maybe this book didn t age well Maybe my expectations were too high But there are a dozen marketing books I d suggest before this one
