A VERY thin volume on a subject that easily merits much deeper analysis and discussion It s no surprise then that this is very much a scratch the surface introductory to the Salem witch trials phenomenon I am not conversant enough on the subject to assess the accuracy of what are presented as facts in this book, but I believe I ve seen at least most of them corroberated by other sources The brevity of this publication also obviously excludes a great deal of useful background information So i A VERY thin volume on a subject that easily merits much deeper analysis and discussion It s no surprise then that this is very much a scratch the surface introductory to the Salem witch trials phenomenon I am not conversant enough on the subject to assess the accuracy of what are presented as facts in this book, but I believe I ve seen at least most of them corroberated by other sources The brevity of this publication also obviously excludes a great deal of useful background information So if you really want to learn about the Salem witch trials, there are tons of other books, articles, and web sites out there that provide a farthorough treatment of the subject But if you just want a quick, easy read overview, this book might work for you

I got this because I was curious to read something I hadn t read about the Salem trials, and Starkey is the author of the first book I ever read on the subject the excellent The Devil in Massachusetts This is an odd pseudo novelization of the history, andit s okay Almost any reasonably adept telling of the story is fascinating But TDiM is considerably better.
