An exceptional follow up to Ratpaths, taking place only weeks after the first.Nivvo is older, wiser andinsane, though I think his character showed better in the first book This time, he s managed to get involved in a plot to start a war, while already in something of a delicate situation between the good guys and the well, not bad guys, but definitely not good guys.

In the second book of the Tales of Istonnia series, someone is trying to start a war between two rival factions the rats and the wolves Once again Nivvo seems to be caught in the middle. The story starts off with a good amount of action and plenty of interesting topics to keep the reader engaged I appreciated the brief rundown of the events in book one, which were skillfully woven into the plot of book two Not a lot of time has passed between the two, and we find our characters right where the In the second book of the Tales of Istonnia series, someone is trying to start a war between two rival factions the rats and the wolves Once again Nivvo seems to be caught in the middle. The story starts off with a good amount of action and plenty of interesting topics to keep the reader engaged I appreciated the brief rundown of the events in book one, which were skillfully woven into the plot of book two Not a lot of time has passed between the two, and we find our characters right where they left off There are also quite a few new characters, and I must admit I had a hard time keeping everyone straight, probably due to their names being so unfamiliar to me no fault of the author s.Miniri was an interesting character I completely understood her desire for revenge and her willingness to stop at nothing to get it What I didn t understand was that she actually seems to enjoy being raped She can t seem to get enough of it That is incredibly disturbing, especially in someone so young Maybe she s really that messed up, but it would have beenbelievable to me if she was only using her body to attain her ultimate goal of revenge The way she is written, it appears she likes what is being done with her I m not a psychologist, so I don t know what condition could possibly account for such behavior All I know is that Miniri is one messed up individual. The writing is certainlygrown up in this book than in the first That s not to say the first book is for young readers because it isn t Book two, though, is definitely geared for adults There are a few scenes that I feel some adults might also find disturbing Vicious, unprovoked violence and sexual scenes being among them, I would like to give a heads up to those who might be offended by such things They are written with care and not casually strewn about, and I completely understand why these scenes are included.Nivvo and Reka continue to be endearing characters, and I still find it hard to believe Reka is so young She has experienced so much in this world and has immense fortitude I also got a better look at Inna, the healer, and I enjoyed getting to know her character I must say that this book does not suffer as second books in a trilogy sometimes do Though there is plenty of room forto the story, I did not come away feeling as if nothing had really happened This book moves the events in the storyline along nicely.I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review

A Rat for a Rat starts something like five weeks after the end of the first book in the series, where we see that Nivvo s life has taken somewhat of a return to its old ways, although there are definitely some differences now that we know the truth of his lineage In fact, at the start of the book, you ll find that the city of Istonnia seems placed within a rather tenuous balance of power, one that doesn t need much to devolve into complete chaos.Guess what happens next I really enjoyed Ratp A Rat for a Rat starts something like five weeks after the end of the first book in the series, where we see that Nivvo s life has taken somewhat of a return to its old ways, although there are definitely some differences now that we know the truth of his lineage In fact, at the start of the book, you ll find that the city of Istonnia seems placed within a rather tenuous balance of power, one that doesn t need much to devolve into complete chaos.Guess what happens next I really enjoyed Ratpaths, it had this light quality within the rather heavy subject matter that made me want to delve further into the world Rust created within The juxtaposition of fantasy and mafioso elements really just makes the story stand out from the crowd But A Rat for a Rat really takes the series much further than the original, causing us to learn a whole heckuva lotabout the world in which Nivvo lives, learn how all of these pieces fit together to make for a much stronger community than anyone realizes, and, ultimately, gives us a thrilling tale that surrounds one of my favorite fictional characters, Nivvosomeone who might be best described as Han Solo in a mafia film.I loved this book, and I honestly can t wait for the third book in this series to come out Considering all the chess pieces Rust puts into play by the end of this one, it s certain to be quite the ride

A Rat for a Rat continues Rust s Tales of Istonnia series centring around thief Nivvo who has just given up his own freedom to protect others.I got drawn into the story very quickly here, having read and very much enjoyed the first book previously There were quite a few different characters to keep track of this time and there were some very interesting developments The plot thickened considerably in this book and there were some shocking and heart wrenching moments as the story progressed.I A Rat for a Rat continues Rust s Tales of Istonnia series centring around thief Nivvo who has just given up his own freedom to protect others.I got drawn into the story very quickly here, having read and very much enjoyed the first book previously There were quite a few different characters to keep track of this time and there were some very interesting developments The plot thickened considerably in this book and there were some shocking and heart wrenching moments as the story progressed.I can t wait to see what s next for Nivvo He is an amazing character and so easy to like The setting as before is totally unique and the world Rust has built feels complete and realistic It all combines to make this a very satisfying and different fantasy read. These books would be suitable for young adults and upwards and I would recommend them to just about anyone If you love fantasy, historical fantasy, or just want to immerse yourself in a totally different world for a while you should definitely give this series a try Highly recommended
