Sometimes the twist in a novel is that there is no twist It has become expected that when writing about reality TV the author will deliver a scathing indictment of the industry and the main character will fall in love off screen usually with someone who is not the hero of the show LB Clark takes the now novel approach of writing it straight Bennet Bennie McAllen, a down on her luck CPA with a thing for good music, ends up on Love Rocks and falls for bachelor Jonathan Nate Jericho from the Sometimes the twist in a novel is that there is no twist It has become expected that when writing about reality TV the author will deliver a scathing indictment of the industry and the main character will fall in love off screen usually with someone who is not the hero of the show LB Clark takes the now novel approach of writing it straight Bennet Bennie McAllen, a down on her luck CPA with a thing for good music, ends up on Love Rocks and falls for bachelor Jonathan Nate Jericho from the band Devil s Town With Bennie acting as a first person narrator Nate s feelings for her aren t about as clear as mud but he does pay her special attention. The plot follows something similar to the Bachelor Contestants compete in a challenge each week and are granted group and individual dates Based on these results three contestants are eliminated each week until there are only there at which point Nate is expected to propose The girls quickly divide themselves into two groups Bennie s group call themselves Class Act and dress up for family dinners to which everyone is invited They call the other group Drama Llamas and it is made up of party girls It is unclear what this group think of itself It is clear early on that Nate favors the Class Act girls As the show goes on Bennie meets Nate s brother Jen and the rest of his bandmates They travel to Vegas to perform a show and Nate brings the after party back to their suite even though Jen is in AA Olivia, Spider, Bennie and Jen take off When Bennie returns she discovers Nate has slept with one of the other contestants Can or should Bennie get past this betrayal The problem with a novel with a story that includes a single first person narrator is that it provides a very narrow scope The reader is limited in their knowledge to what the narrator sees, thinks and feels Romances do not lend themselves well to this type of narration because they are the story of two people This way of telling the story leaves the reader with only have the story Bennie s half We never hear from Nate He sang his heart out to Bennie and then that very night turned around and slept with someone else What was going through his head, did he think about her at all It makes it much harder to sympathize with and forgive Nate for his actions when we don t know his side of the story The ending isn t much help with this The reality show format is basically abandoned at this point and Bennie returns home The reader never sees the end of the show There are some of the basic commentaries that love isn t something that appears on the stage, but it is overwhelmed by the reader s feeling that Bennie could do so much better

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here Dear author, your so called hero is a weak piece of shit He gets mad at the heroine and immediately screws another contestant of the show to hurt her Seriously What a weak little baby he is, certainly not hero material But the absolute worst thing about this so called romance is how the heroine understands why he did it and never demands an apology or explanation DISGUSTING I WILL NEVER GO OUT OF MY WAY TO READ ANYTHING BY THIS AUTHOR

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I reread this book and enjoyed it It s nicely written and the story is good with lots of multidimensional characters It also doesn t have the cringeworthy cliches that so many romance novels have There was a dramatic shift in scenery at the end of the book, but I think it was important for the characters development The 4 star rating is because it left so much unresolved Even though Bennie was independent, trying to be true to herself and averse to drama, she left way too many conversation I reread this book and enjoyed it It s nicely written and the story is good with lots of multidimensional characters It also doesn t have the cringeworthy cliches that so many romance novels have There was a dramatic shift in scenery at the end of the book, but I think it was important for the characters development The 4 star rating is because it left so much unresolved Even though Bennie was independent, trying to be true to herself and averse to drama, she left way too many conversations and chances to engage with Nate Also, after knowing so much about Bennie s thoughts and conversations with the other characters, it felt incomplete to leave out what she said in her final interview on camera before the dramatic walk out scene I have an idea what I think she would have said, but that s too big of a gap for the reader to fill in, especially when Bennie is such a unique character Also, I wouldn t even call it a HFN ending I prefer a HEA, but am okay with a HFN at times I have unresolved feelings on this one though It slike a happy for this instant ending for all I know, Nate might have left her with her bracelet and never called her again Or they might have gone out once in real life and decided it was a no go I d like a sequel but would settle for an epilogue with someinfo on that final interview

Love Rocks is a guilty pleasure that took me in instantly An unexpected fun look into reality TV and the details behind it Interesting to see it from this other angle The author writes an upbeat, compelling story that had my imagination run wild An entertaining escape into Hollywood and the misdeeds that can take place. The writing is crystal clear and the dialogue is realistic So much so that I found myself getting emotionally involved in Bennie s the main character life.Love Rocks is a Love Rocks is a guilty pleasure that took me in instantly An unexpected fun look into reality TV and the details behind it Interesting to see it from this other angle The author writes an upbeat, compelling story that had my imagination run wild An entertaining escape into Hollywood and the misdeeds that can take place. The writing is crystal clear and the dialogue is realistic So much so that I found myself getting emotionally involved in Bennie s the main character life.Love Rocks is a totally mischievous and gratifying ride into a world most of us will never experience first hand An easy read that I enjoyed for pure pleasure There is heart behind this story and I can tell there is a passion for music That comes across with abundance
