3.5 stars Not fine literature by any stretch, but a fun, quick read Since I ve lived on Ambergris Caye several years ago, I was glad to see that the author got a lot of the details right, including street names I don t know that cars can be rented there, though at least not when I lived there golf carts only , nor that they would be able to drive 10 miles north of town, as the road, such as it was, wasn t even passable by golf carts after about 5 miles water taxis only , but things may ha 3.5 stars Not fine literature by any stretch, but a fun, quick read Since I ve lived on Ambergris Caye several years ago, I was glad to see that the author got a lot of the details right, including street names I don t know that cars can be rented there, though at least not when I lived there golf carts only , nor that they would be able to drive 10 miles north of town, as the road, such as it was, wasn t even passable by golf carts after about 5 miles water taxis only , but things may have changed a bit, so I ll cut the author some slack An engaging story and very eye opening re human trafficking If it was occurring when I lived there, I was blissfully unaware given my boring retiree lifestyle, but I appreciate the author s agenda in illuminating this issue All in all, a good free Kindle read, but will I pay for book 2 Not sure

I received this book from Goodreads for my unbiased opinion Escape from Ambergris Caye is a fast paced, easy read with a simple story telling style and uncomplicated characters This is an unpretentious tale of the everyday people who curiously walk into a danger so terrible that it still makes me shiver This simple story follows three everyday people whose curiosity and drive to do the right thing propels them into ominous danger, almost certain death, or captivity That s where the simplic I received this book from Goodreads for my unbiased opinion Escape from Ambergris Caye is a fast paced, easy read with a simple story telling style and uncomplicated characters This is an unpretentious tale of the everyday people who curiously walk into a danger so terrible that it still makes me shiver This simple story follows three everyday people whose curiosity and drive to do the right thing propels them into ominous danger, almost certain death, or captivity That s where the simplicity ends and the topic becomes terrifying Human trafficking is alive Jackson and Issie are a TV news reporting team out doing their daily tasks when cameraman Jackson inadvertently films a hard looking man Leon roughly yanking a teenage girl back into a house from a porch Thinking that something looks wrong, he shares the video and his misgivings with his reporter Issie She decides to check it out on her own and walks into an unbelievable world of pain and tragedy Once she disappears, Jackson realizes that she s in deep trouble and, along with his slacker older brother Zac, steps in to rescue her Which works out fine until he gets captured too I m glad I read this story for several reasons I liked the characters and writing style and the eye opening plot was shockingly real In Joan Mauch s story, the people are saved by good cops, great timing, and a boatload of luck But, in real life, millions aren t so lucky As of 2012, there were almost 21 million people worldwide being held captive Very Scary

I have mixed feelings about this book On the plus side, it was a good story, and shed light on the horrors of human trafficking On the negative side, there were a lot of loopholes and improbable circumstances that just didn t make a lot of sense All in all, I liked it although I found myself questioning a lot of the action.
