After about halfway, reading this became an effort for me I couldn t put a finger on why I stopped burning through the pages it s a good book and written well, so it might just be mood I liked all the descriptions of ranch life and loved the characters Nick, Elsa, Cheyenne, Dakota, along with recurring Angelina and Colt from book one but really disliked all the scenes with Whitney.Content drunkenness not condoned , kissing.

In this second book of the Double S Ranch Series, we get Nick s story Nick is a single dad with two elementary school aged girls Nick s wife left him and didn t stay in touch with the girls. What I enjoyed about this novel was the way that Nick realized the motivations behind his marriage and how that impacted the outcome Nick saw himself as the perfect son He was the one who stayed to help at the ranch and deserved happiness.I look forward to Trey s story in book three.

I love to read It is, quite simply, my most favorite thing in all the world to do There are those times when you open a book to begin reading and you are drawn so far into the story, from the first paragraph that you just don t want to leave it for long This was such a book This is Ruth Logan Herne s second book in her Double S Ranch series and just her best ever, in my opinion I loved everything about it Herne has that unique ability to make her readers feel everything that is happen I love to read It is, quite simply, my most favorite thing in all the world to do There are those times when you open a book to begin reading and you are drawn so far into the story, from the first paragraph that you just don t want to leave it for long This was such a book This is Ruth Logan Herne s second book in her Double S Ranch series and just her best ever, in my opinion I loved everything about it Herne has that unique ability to make her readers feel everything that is happening in her books Her characters are so well fleshed out that they feel real, making the reader feel like they are in the room with them, watching all the action from their position as a fly on the wall Even the secondary characters seem real The first book in this series was wonderful, but this one is even better And, what s even MORE better is that we see all those characters from the first book in great quantity here, too Herne deals with a very difficult subject here abandonment of her children by their mother Tough subject Very tough Children are hurt, sometimes forever, by such a thing The mother child bond is the most powerful here on earth, in my opinion Children long for their mother s approval and love There is so much hurt here, but Herne handles it with such a deft hand that the reader is amazed Truly, this was a most excellent novel and as I read the excerpt from Book 3 in the series, I wept I really did I enjoyed every single minute of this book and now I m so sad it s over Sometimes you don t know whether to read slowly and prolong the pleasure or read faster to find out what s happened I m going to be living with these characters a while I guarantee you that I absolutely am longing for book 3 I can t read it soon enough I love the Stafford family I highly recommend this book

The second in Ruth Logan Herne s Double S Ranch Series, Home on the Range, takes on second son Nick Stafford s story In the first book Back in the Saddle, we actually get a good insight into Nick s life and his challenges raising his 2 daughters alone, abandoned by his wife years earlier I felt a connection to him while reading that book, and so was really hoping this series would continue and that Nick would be next Its always interesting to see what route an author will take with a char The second in Ruth Logan Herne s Double S Ranch Series, Home on the Range, takes on second son Nick Stafford s story In the first book Back in the Saddle, we actually get a good insight into Nick s life and his challenges raising his 2 daughters alone, abandoned by his wife years earlier I felt a connection to him while reading that book, and so was really hoping this series would continue and that Nick would be next Its always interesting to see what route an author will take with a character, and it was a pleasant surprise that she brought child phycologist Dr Elsa Andreas into his life Her sister is the principal of the school Nick s daughters attend, and the oldest Cheyenne, is struggling in many ways, which as it does for children often shows itself in the school work, and grades their ability to interact with peers and adults in their life In fact, it was quite comfortable reading, in today s society I feel like we areaware of the issues that children can face, we talk about itopenly, and a certain level of understanding a desire to help the child isprominent than in past generations I found it helpful even as a parent, to read some of the lines of this book In many of the situations Nick Elsa found themselves in, they were able to handle something in a muchcalm and prepared state than I think most of do today in reality It teaches you to think before you act, and to consider the implications of reacting to anothers words or deeds before you choose how to respond This is especially true, when the sudden arrival of Whitney, Nick s ex wife and estranged mother to the girls She adds an interesting mix I especially enjoyed that Nick Elsa, were open to the possibility of the feelings that were developing for each other This is not the norm in contemporary romance fiction, often there is a desperate inner battle to fight against the emotion until much later in the book, whereas this came at a muchnatural steady pace, and I think a lotrealistic I enjoyed the flow of the story There was no huge chunks of wasted space in this book, you can read this book and get lost in the beauty of the descriptions of the area, the inter relations of those that work on the ranch, and a sufficient inclusion of Colt Angelina to feel content at the flow from the first book into the second As always, with this kind of story, there is the inclusion of the animals and the connection to what is happening to the characters of the book I liked the verses of inspiration and overall this is an uplifting read with a strong message, on taking time to recover yourself, from whatever you have faced in life Then come out stronger on the other side As always, to put your trust in God, that He will help you through the dark days, and you can bask in the light once again I absolutely cannot wait for Trey s story, he seems like he has it together, so calm and patient and I loved that he arrived at just the right time in this story I received this book from Waterbrook Multnomah Blogging for Books This is my honest review

When I pick up a novel to read, it is with the hope that I will be swept away by the characters and can become one with their world It is rare to find an author who can do that, let alone, do it consistently Ruth Logan Herne is one of those authors that can consistently create a world of characters that pull you in and let you become one with the story Her newest book, Home on the Range is the second book in her Double S Ranch series and it pulled me in from the very first page The first b When I pick up a novel to read, it is with the hope that I will be swept away by the characters and can become one with their world It is rare to find an author who can do that, let alone, do it consistently Ruth Logan Herne is one of those authors that can consistently create a world of characters that pull you in and let you become one with the story Her newest book, Home on the Range is the second book in her Double S Ranch series and it pulled me in from the very first page The first book in the series, Back in the Saddle read my review here , was without a doubt the best contemporary novel I read last year and Home on the Range is the best contemporary novel I have read this year.I loved this book From start to finish the characters captivated me and pulled me into their story Nick was a character I met in the first book of the series I can honestly say I didn t get the warm fuzzier about him in the first book but as the author allowed him to reveal his issues and hurts in this book my heart melted and I grew to love him Elsa, I liked right away, especially when she started working with the girls, Cheyenne and Dakota She was sweet yet firm and allowed us to see deep into her hurts and issues as well Now the girls were special They had me wrapped around their little fingers right off and I didn t want to say goodbye to them.Another thing I find rare in an author s work is when they can write in such a way that it engages all five senses in the reader Ruth Logan Herne did just that in this book There is a scene on pages 130 133 that engaged all my senses Elsa takes the girls into the forest to a small bog On the way you will hear birds chirping and frogs croaking You will smell the dampness and earthy smell of the forest When we get to the bog, we will hear the sound of the Spring Peeperstree frogs The characters sit down and listen and it is amazing how I was so transported into this scene that I could feel, hear, see and smell everything that was occurring in that scene and I felt at peace, just as the characters did This to me is a true gift of story telling and Ms Logan Herne has truly been blessed with this gift.I could go on and on about this wonderful book, but I don t believe in giving out spoilers I will say that this book can be read as a stand alone book but if you haven t read the first book in the series you might want to pick up a copy and read it first I would highly recommend both books in this series Home on the Range, releases on September 17, 2016.I am looking forward to the third book in this series, Peace in the Valley, which is due to be out in March 2017 This will be Trey Stafford s story and I m anxious to learnabout him.On a 5 Star Scale 5 HUGE Stars I would like to thank the author Ruth Logan Herne for my copy of Home on the Range I received my copy for free in order to read it and give my honest review
