Though it broke my heart to see one of my favorite secondary characters from book one killed off early in book two, I was delighted to see Jason Danvers as the hero in Breaking Point he was an intriguing character in Counter Point, though we knew very little about him Getting to know his backstory and his heart personality in this second book was worth the wait and made the loss of Alynne s father a little easier for me to bear Jason s a swoony cowboy type hero with integrity and inner str Though it broke my heart to see one of my favorite secondary characters from book one killed off early in book two, I was delighted to see Jason Danvers as the hero in Breaking Point he was an intriguing character in Counter Point, though we knew very little about him Getting to know his backstory and his heart personality in this second book was worth the wait and made the loss of Alynne s father a little easier for me to bear Jason s a swoony cowboy type hero with integrity and inner strength as well as physical , and he stands in direct contrast to the guy Alynne currently is attached to.As far as Alynne, she takes a bit to warm up to, but her character growth across the novel is really heart touching and satisfying I loved her aunts, and of course getting reacquainted with her mother who was another character I enjoyed in Counter Point, and I hope we seeof them in later books in the series. Some of the other characters are a bit over the top so unlikable that their behavior seems unlikely in real life I expected any number of them to break into maniacal laughs at any given moment Despite the stereotypical small town Texas territorial sheriff and his crooked deputy, I am intrigued to see if we get anyinformation on their motivation and animosity toward Heath s Point s police department in future books It seems like it was such a big focus of this book, only to fizzle out somewhat abruptly at the end perhaps their subplot was only setting things up for a bigger role in one of the next novels in the series The suspense part of this novel will keep you on the edge of your favorite reading chair or your fainting couch if you ve retreated there to recover from Jason s swooniness , with a bevy of surprising twists and turns Poor Alynne can t just grieve she also has to fight for her own survival as someone is clearly out to get her Figuring out the why and the who is a bitcomplicated than it might first appear, and I thought the author did a good job of keeping the tension high, the danger ever present, and the questions piling up until the end.Bottom Line Breaking Point is a danger ridden suspense novel with a dash of romance thrown in, a somewhat naive heroine, and a yummy hero Accompanying them is a handful of delightful supporting players you ll want to hug and a whole host of villainous characters who really needed a good counselor to help them work through their copious issues Laine s skill at writing tense danger scenes and heart in your throat action will keep you turning the pages from start to finish, and while I shallowly wish there had been at least one swoonilicious liplock I also understand why the author crafted the romance the way she did A treasure hunt, a woman s life in danger, a hero who didn t expect to fall in love again a fast paced read for fans of romantic suspense I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book first seen at Reading Is My SuperPower

Grime Wave is book two in the Grime Fighters series I believe that readers could follow along fairly well in this story without having read the first book of the series, Grime Beat, however, I think that they will feel muchconnected to the characters if book one is enjoyed first. In Grime Wave, Dani Foster lands right in the middle of a murder and must navigate a disturbing investigation while trying to figure out what the future holds for a possible relationship between herself and Jay Hu Grime Wave is book two in the Grime Fighters series I believe that readers could follow along fairly well in this story without having read the first book of the series, Grime Beat, however, I think that they will feel muchconnected to the characters if book one is enjoyed first. In Grime Wave, Dani Foster lands right in the middle of a murder and must navigate a disturbing investigation while trying to figure out what the future holds for a possible relationship between herself and Jay Hunter I really like these two characters They are trying to get to know each other better, but they are human and life keeps getting in the way The doubts that sometimes creep up for both of them as they attempt to take their friendship to another level seems very realistic.Once again, although classified as a novella, I felt that Grime Wave delivered a full story with great characters, plenty of suspense, and a touch of romance An exciting addition to the series, book two left me looking forward to someday reading the next book in the series I definitely recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. You can read this review on my blog at

I mostly enjoyed this Christian romantic suspense novel I did have trouble liking Cat In the face of being in grave danger, she made some strange decisions She seemed immature and very stubborn Ray was an interesting character in that he braved being in a dangerous place to do mission work yet could not articulate how he felt to those close to him And I never understood the two percent deal on the diner and why Cat s dad would have made such an arrangement It was a voluntary adjustment to I mostly enjoyed this Christian romantic suspense novel I did have trouble liking Cat In the face of being in grave danger, she made some strange decisions She seemed immature and very stubborn Ray was an interesting character in that he braved being in a dangerous place to do mission work yet could not articulate how he felt to those close to him And I never understood the two percent deal on the diner and why Cat s dad would have made such an arrangement It was a voluntary adjustment to the initial contract that hurt Cat terribly While it made for a good subplot, it just didn t make sense to me that her dad would do that.I think the strength of the novel is in the discussion of what it means to be in mission for God Is it only going to a very dangerous foreign place to spread the gospel or can it include feeding the hungry homeless nearby There is quite a bit of suspense in the novel There is also a very good Christian message included as the characters discuss issues The author s writing style is one that kept my interest Overall I enjoyed the novel and look forward to the next in the series.I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit My comments are an independent and honest review

This story shows a lot of love and compassion for our fellow man, but there is also evil lurking, determined to take it all away.Talk about wolves in sheep s clothing, well this story sure has one, but you will be guessing right to the end whom the culprit is.There are a lot of people hurt here physically, and you will wonder who will survive until the end, even when you think it is over, watch out I loved how obstacles happened, and then the Lord provides, and wow How he provided A little bit This story shows a lot of love and compassion for our fellow man, but there is also evil lurking, determined to take it all away.Talk about wolves in sheep s clothing, well this story sure has one, but you will be guessing right to the end whom the culprit is.There are a lot of people hurt here physically, and you will wonder who will survive until the end, even when you think it is over, watch out I loved how obstacles happened, and then the Lord provides, and wow How he provided A little bit of romance and trusting here, but a lot of family love, and friends that are like family I received this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to give a positive review

This is my favorite of Marji Laine s books It s a Christian romance but one of those that could stand as an excellent story if the Christian elements weren t there Not that I d want them removed But someone who is not Christian could thoroughly enjoy this novel The characters, primary and secondary, are well developed, and the prose is a smooth read LOVE IT I received a copy of this book from the publisher but was not required to give a review.

Christian suspense is a genre I gravitate toward as someone who has always enjoyed mysteries Trying to find a clean thriller or mystery in secular fiction is often like searching for a needle in a haystack, especially among those published within the last few decades Reading Christian books instead hopefully removes the profanity and vulgarity while still conveying the darkness of this world and, most importantly, shining the light of Christ and the joy of salvation Rarely do I pass up an Christian suspense is a genre I gravitate toward as someone who has always enjoyed mysteries Trying to find a clean thriller or mystery in secular fiction is often like searching for a needle in a haystack, especially among those published within the last few decades Reading Christian books instead hopefully removes the profanity and vulgarity while still conveying the darkness of this world and, most importantly, shining the light of Christ and the joy of salvation Rarely do I pass up an opportunity to review a book from this category, and most of the ones I ve read have lived up to my expectations, so I was eager to read this first book in the Heath s Point Suspense series Marji Laine s Counter Point contains interesting elements that make this story in some ways different from others I have read I try to stay away from plotlines about drug cartels because they don t appeal to me personally, although I understand that they are an important topic to consider and approach from a Christian viewpoint Something that really stood out to me about this book is the missionary aspect Although it is not difficult to consider the dangers that the missionaries themselves may face, I had not really considered that their families and loved ones back home might also be endangered As in this narrative, sometimes missionaries break up cartels or otherwise threaten the livelihood of corrupt authority figures Prior to reading Counter Point , I did not realize that the risks might extend beyond the missionary station itself Each chapter opens with a Scripture verse epigraph, which keeps the focus on God through trials, loss, and frightening situations That in itself is a lesson worthy of recognizing Multiple times throughout the narrative, the Lord s divine intervention becomes evident, drawing awareness to how often He intercedes for us through coincidences and in ways we don t even realize One issue I did have with the novel, however, was the characters I did not feel much of a connection with any of them and found them incongruous and somewhat stereotypical They do not seem to have much depth or dimension andor less follow foreseeable paths The interactions between Cat and Ray seem to go in circles, with Cat being too puerile for her age Cat s late father s will does not make sense with what we are told of his nature Nevertheless, the characters do have redeeming qualities and do lead others to Jesus I love the ministry of sunset dinners, feeding the homeless suppers and letting them know they are seen, and how Laine makes it clear that this can be missionary work as well You don t necessarily have to travel to be one of Jesus disciples He can and will use you no matter what your circumstances I received a complimentary copy of this book through CelebrateLit and was not required to post a favorable review All opinions are my own

I really enjoyed this continuation of the Grime Fighter series Although the small town setting was slower paced and different than the earlier books, which are set in the Dallas area, there was still a mystery to be solved and danger always seems to find Dani Foster I liked visiting Jay Hunter s small town and meeting the people he grew up with It was painful to watch as Dani was continually treated badly by Jay s family for things that weren t her responsibility However, the reasons behind I really enjoyed this continuation of the Grime Fighter series Although the small town setting was slower paced and different than the earlier books, which are set in the Dallas area, there was still a mystery to be solved and danger always seems to find Dani Foster I liked visiting Jay Hunter s small town and meeting the people he grew up with It was painful to watch as Dani was continually treated badly by Jay s family for things that weren t her responsibility However, the reasons behind their actions become clear as the story unfolds I was extremely impressed with both Jay and Dani in the way that they dealt with Jay s family and their treatment of Dani Each of the previous Grime Fighter mysteries have revealed a bitabout Dani and her past This novella did not truly add much new information, however, the reader will continue to see Dani struggle with hiding who she really is from Jay I m looking forward to readingin this series and finding out the full extent of Dani s backstory This has been a fun series to read I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
