This book is a very interesting history book, because it helped me learn a littleabout Scotland and their very old, traditional games and food I find this book would be useful for students who have to research a different country specifically Scotland.

Succinct and thematically arranged, with stunning photographs, this library loan is very helpful for getting me ready to enjoy a trip to Scotland in the fall Well done, Nathaniel Harris I am especially impressed with the scientists, engineers, and inventors whose heritage is Scottish Remarkable.

Okay I admit it, I got this book because of the pictures 250 years ago or so my family was still hanging out in Scotland both sides actually and I have a love for the country I ve never been and I was hoping this book was going to show me some of the beautiful natural scenery as well as the historical bits like castles and quaint cobblestone streets Maybe I should have read the summary on the inside cover because that s not what I got.I got a lot of tedious facts along with the pretty pictu Okay I admit it, I got this book because of the pictures 250 years ago or so my family was still hanging out in Scotland both sides actually and I have a love for the country I ve never been and I was hoping this book was going to show me some of the beautiful natural scenery as well as the historical bits like castles and quaint cobblestone streets Maybe I should have read the summary on the inside cover because that s not what I got.I got a lot of tedious facts along with the pretty pictures I mean the facts themselves were actually pretty interesting, but I had a hard time paying attention because they were presented in such a boring way Super interesting but poorly written Not to mention it was structured in a way that I didn t particularly appreciate If you re going to write historical facts, write them chronologically I got so confuse because, for example, we had made it to the 20th century in the Highlands, but I was transported back again to Roman times when the author decided to talk about Scottish engineers I just got frustrated But that s just me really. But anyway, it was an interesting read and the book is worth checking if only for the gorgeous photos There is a tragic lack of maps though 3 5 stars

Why does this book not have a map Why would the author directionally describe the three major areas of the country and not show them on a map That was my only major complaint Some of the information was not as interesting as other information industrial growth vs Mary, Queen of Scots but I did learn a lot about the history of the country and how it grew There was an abundance of royalty killed for various reasons and superfluous lockings of up people kids, even in towers For years Twe Why does this book not have a map Why would the author directionally describe the three major areas of the country and not show them on a map That was my only major complaint Some of the information was not as interesting as other information industrial growth vs Mary, Queen of Scots but I did learn a lot about the history of the country and how it grew There was an abundance of royalty killed for various reasons and superfluous lockings of up people kids, even in towers For years Twelve in one case That was nuts.I was astonished to learn that the glorified kilted clans were not the noble folks we romanticize them to be and were considered brutes, generally, during their heyday I suppose that s probably accurate.I loved the first documented mention of golf a ban because men were spending too much time playing it and not enough time training for war.All in all, entertaining and education exactly what I expected and wanted What I ll retain from this above all else the Scots gave us golf, whisky, haggis, and kilts Four and a half stars
