In this brief essay which took me about half and hour to read , Marcus outlines many mental and physical health pitfalls long term animal activists face and offers basic, useful strategies for coping with them I recommend it highly for my fellow animal activists, but I also think his discussion is useful for long term activists of all kinds.

I enjoyed this essay I would recommend it to those who feel helpless or cynical due to their constant exposure to the issues of which they advocate for or against The author proposed sources and techniques to refer to when experiencing burnout He is not an psychology expert, but rather, an avid animal activist of 25 years, if I m not mistaken His perspective is helpful Only 3 stars from me because I disagreed with a few of his opinions and thoughts on some approaches, but it was a good rea I enjoyed this essay I would recommend it to those who feel helpless or cynical due to their constant exposure to the issues of which they advocate for or against The author proposed sources and techniques to refer to when experiencing burnout He is not an psychology expert, but rather, an avid animal activist of 25 years, if I m not mistaken His perspective is helpful Only 3 stars from me because I disagreed with a few of his opinions and thoughts on some approaches, but it was a good read Also, I didn t expect so heavily of an animal activist perspective when initially reading the title I do plan to apply what I learned from this essay to my activism of feminism

Not a bad little book long essay Probably not a ton of insight for people who have been doing this a while, but might be a good recommendation for anyone you know who is feeling newly engaged right now and therefore newly at risk of burnout Not giving itstars because it didn t give me much of a new framework to think about my challenges No bad advice, so I may recommend it to others, but nothing very actionable or transformative for me Note that while this says it is for animal Not a bad little book long essay Probably not a ton of insight for people who have been doing this a while, but might be a good recommendation for anyone you know who is feeling newly engaged right now and therefore newly at risk of burnout Not giving itstars because it didn t give me much of a new framework to think about my challenges No bad advice, so I may recommend it to others, but nothing very actionable or transformative for me Note that while this says it is for animal rights activists, most of it with the exception of a discussion of pamphleting is pretty applicable to any activism

This has changed the way I think about the issues involved in activism I have dealt with some of what he talks about in his book and there were moments I found myself saying, I m doing this all wrong The book consists of many ideas that I can implement right now at this exact moment to help enhance the process of saving lives I will do anything to achieve that goal Instead of being a bulky book with tons of anecdotes, this book is short and gives practical advice It s an information dens This has changed the way I think about the issues involved in activism I have dealt with some of what he talks about in his book and there were moments I found myself saying, I m doing this all wrong The book consists of many ideas that I can implement right now at this exact moment to help enhance the process of saving lives I will do anything to achieve that goal Instead of being a bulky book with tons of anecdotes, this book is short and gives practical advice It s an information dense book and for those reasons, I rated it a 5

This was not for me, kind of literally It was specifically about animal rights activists but to be fair, what wasn t specific could be used toward my own work That said, the major advice seems to be do yoga and meditate which isn t exactly groundbreaking.
