I am a complete poetry buff, so I wansn t entirely sure whether this book was for me until I started it I think it takes a great deal of skill to make a cohesive text of poetry and prose William Poe does, in a way that is brilliantly unique to this piece The mixture of the two works perfectly throughout, serving both to create balance and poignantly disturb it in places Perfectly done. The cover of this book is very telling it is bleak, it is dark, but there is so much beauty in the shadow I am a complete poetry buff, so I wansn t entirely sure whether this book was for me until I started it I think it takes a great deal of skill to make a cohesive text of poetry and prose William Poe does, in a way that is brilliantly unique to this piece The mixture of the two works perfectly throughout, serving both to create balance and poignantly disturb it in places Perfectly done. The cover of this book is very telling it is bleak, it is dark, but there is so much beauty in the shadow Deeply private issues are publicised and played with, truly sensitive subjects are broached, and it still remains beautifully detached from self indulgent poetic culture I would absolutely recommend this book

Dark and sometimes demeaning, but mostly clever and evil, this is a magnificently planned out book of poetry and short stories William Poe is a writer with a talent for getting into the dark minds of the characters he writes about The first two chapters, Art and Death , were by far my favorites, but I enjoyed the book from front to back.I liked that some of the poetry following the shorts stories tied in with the preceding story I was most mesmerized by the poems connected with The Origin Dark and sometimes demeaning, but mostly clever and evil, this is a magnificently planned out book of poetry and short stories William Poe is a writer with a talent for getting into the dark minds of the characters he writes about The first two chapters, Art and Death , were by far my favorites, but I enjoyed the book from front to back.I liked that some of the poetry following the shorts stories tied in with the preceding story I was most mesmerized by the poems connected with The Origin Of The Cowboy Poem They were so visual and telling, keeping you hooked until the final word

In this skillful entry that even readers unenamoured of poetry will appreciate, Poe performs the duty required of being a poet by making every word count He ties together these poems and short stories concerning rage, alienation, and overall hopelessness with the universal theme of trying to find one s place in an uncaring world.

I received this for free from a Goodreads giveaway.I have mixed feelings about this book On the one hand, I like that it seems to push boundaries into a little darker territories, for lack of a better word, and that it doesn t shy away from topics like death, religion, racism, homophobia, or suicide I really did appreciate most of the poems in the book that dealt with these topics My favorite was Missing the Mark and I also enjoyed On a Day Long Ago and New Roads I think Poe has a ta I received this for free from a Goodreads giveaway.I have mixed feelings about this book On the one hand, I like that it seems to push boundaries into a little darker territories, for lack of a better word, and that it doesn t shy away from topics like death, religion, racism, homophobia, or suicide I really did appreciate most of the poems in the book that dealt with these topics My favorite was Missing the Mark and I also enjoyed On a Day Long Ago and New Roads I think Poe has a talent for poetry and I felt connected to and intrigued by many of his pieces. On the other hand, the prose was not my favorite It feltimpersonal than his poetry and I had a difficult time connecting with or caring about the characters, even though I wanted to find them compelling Ii also found the treatment of mental illness and suicide in some of the pieces to be disturbing in a shock value way as opposed to a haunting way and problematic Overall, the pieces of poetry that I did enjoy did not redeem the book as a whole for me 2.5 5
