I picked this up when I discovered it at the library while searching for a different book of the same title It looked interesting and short When it arrived, I figured it would be just another self published work that didn t get picked up by a publishing house because it didn t pass muster I ve read a few of those, and most don t get published for a reason It wasn t half bad, though The storytelling is decent, although the writing, while not completely amateur, is not quite polished eithe I picked this up when I discovered it at the library while searching for a different book of the same title It looked interesting and short When it arrived, I figured it would be just another self published work that didn t get picked up by a publishing house because it didn t pass muster I ve read a few of those, and most don t get published for a reason It wasn t half bad, though The storytelling is decent, although the writing, while not completely amateur, is not quite polished either does every character HAVE to have a first and last name and a back story at their introduction to the story Show, don t tell He has room to grow, but not terrible. It would have been better if the last five pages or so were completely left out The plot wasn t bad, even if at least part of the whodunnit was somewhat obvious It s WAY too neatly tied up in a bow, though, from the view spoiler long lost brother who is finally reconnecting to his family, to the connection with the sister in law who has a past because she used to be a stripper, to the accomplished physician who happens to get pregnant after years of trying something that NEVER came up in the entire story until the very last climax scene and is naturally going to suddenly set her entire career aside and be a homemaker because that s apparently what her husband wants hide spoiler A little too perfect for me But the rest was ok.3.5 5

My first Richard L Mabry, MD book and it does not disappoint Even though it is a novella, it has plenty of suspense, red herrings, and plot twists While it could have been fleshed out a littleas a full length novel, I did enjoy being able to finish it in only a few sittings The story, which takes place around Christmas, ismurder mystery than Christmas story It begins with the dead body found in the snow and ends with everything neatly tied together There are some moments where My first Richard L Mabry, MD book and it does not disappoint Even though it is a novella, it has plenty of suspense, red herrings, and plot twists While it could have been fleshed out a littleas a full length novel, I did enjoy being able to finish it in only a few sittings The story, which takes place around Christmas, ismurder mystery than Christmas story It begins with the dead body found in the snow and ends with everything neatly tied together There are some moments where things are explained that could have benefited fromexplanation, but there were also little clues throughout for a lot of it There are a few plot twists and admittedly, I only had an inkling on one of them My theory throughout the novella was thwarted about 55 60% through the book when the author brought up my theory as a possibility that s when I knew I must be wrong Glad I was and a great job to a new author that weaves together a clean, suspenseful story with Christian elements Looking forward to read one of his full length novels at some point Check outof my reviews at

I cannot ever recall thinking that I would like to be a police officer If I had pursued that occupation, I believe making a discovery like the one found by Officer Adela Reyes a few nights after Christmas would have sent me seeking a new occupation After noticing the front door of a home standing open at three o clock in the morning and stopping to check it out, she saw a mound of snow in the front yard and discovered the dead body of an elderly woman From that point the tension and excitemen I cannot ever recall thinking that I would like to be a police officer If I had pursued that occupation, I believe making a discovery like the one found by Officer Adela Reyes a few nights after Christmas would have sent me seeking a new occupation After noticing the front door of a home standing open at three o clock in the morning and stopping to check it out, she saw a mound of snow in the front yard and discovered the dead body of an elderly woman From that point the tension and excitement mount as the family of the deceased woman is contacted and the police begin the investigative process of identifying the murderer and bringing that individual to justice Other events factor into the story making itdifficult to separate the murder case from everything else going on For a novella, Dr Mabry has packed it full of suspense, tension, and action Grab yourself a notepad to keep up with the clues to see if you figure this one out before the finale

I really don t get all the good reviews on this story There was nothing new or surprising, at least to me The killers were really obvious and my suspicions were confirmed when the neighbor kept asking about the will andI don t remember the name, but the long lost brother suddenly appeared There was nothing suspenseful as many reviewers stated, not unless this was the first story they d ever read Not a fan.
