2.5 rounded to 3 Normally, stories where the h pines away for her older brother s bestie are a pet peeve of mine That kind of angsty read usually ends up making me frustrated and angry Then I read the reviews on how great Blevins writing was, so I decided to take a chance After reading this book, I have to admit I m conflicted On the one hand, the beginning of the book was hard for me to read It wasn t a good situation, I didn t find any pleasure in reading it, and I wanted to put it down 2.5 rounded to 3 Normally, stories where the h pines away for her older brother s bestie are a pet peeve of mine That kind of angsty read usually ends up making me frustrated and angry Then I read the reviews on how great Blevins writing was, so I decided to take a chance After reading this book, I have to admit I m conflicted On the one hand, the beginning of the book was hard for me to read It wasn t a good situation, I didn t find any pleasure in reading it, and I wanted to put it down However, all the glowing reviews for this book lingered in the back of my mind, and I convinced myself to give it twochapters before I marked this as a DNF Blevins writing is really great Not only did she manage to make me care about the MCs which is honestly a miracle , she elevated their story through flashbacks yet another one of my pet peeves and tight writing The story was very insular There were few characters in it, which made it easy to focus on the MCs story I didn t get the feeling that she included secondary characters just so that there would bestories to tell in a series Each character actually added value to the story I would have liked to seen the MCsdeveloped, but still enjoyed their story nonetheless I do wish that we didn t begin this book with the inciting incident It was a little off putting and didn t make me like either MC very much The H s growth, however, made this story for me I wanted to see how he would change, what he would be willing to do, how much he would sacrifice to make things right with the h She was my least favourite character in this story I felt bad for her situation, but the way she handled it wasn t so great Overall, an enjoyable read if you can get over the first two chapters. What I liked 1 The dual povs.2 The H Even though I pretty much found him disgusting in the beginning of the story, he faced some pretty terrible truths about himself and really wanted to change What he was willing to sacrifice said a lot about his underlying character.3 The secondary characters.4 The writing I appreciated the economy of words and third person narrative The chapters titles were fun. What I didn t like 1 I know I ve said it already, but the first two chapters were sad Plus I m really tired of the manwhore thing 2 No epilogue.3 The h She was weak and made some really bad choices

I liked it ish, but I wanted to like it it s just it was missing something or maybe a lot of somethings view spoiler I was so confused about so many things the timeline when did they all meet four years ago how old are they now what s the age difference between them Leila what happened to her job was she living with her ex bf the whole time why didn t she pack any of her clothes things relationship if Leila and Drew are bffs, why does she keep talking about how she hasn I liked it ish, but I wanted to like it it s just it was missing something or maybe a lot of somethings view spoiler I was so confused about so many things the timeline when did they all meet four years ago how old are they now what s the age difference between them Leila what happened to her job was she living with her ex bf the whole time why didn t she pack any of her clothes things relationship if Leila and Drew are bffs, why does she keep talking about how she hasn t seen him them her brother and Henrik are they really that close how did she even start dating Derek is Austin an overprotective brother where was he when she was dating Derek or absent unless convenient for the story brother why doesn t anyone question why Leila just hangs around naps a lot how do Austin Leila s parents fit in they seem like good parents, but then they re fine with not seeing their daughter hockey are they professional hockey players if they live sparsely, what do they do with their money don t they ever have to worry about paparazzi or fans view spoiler I m also not a fan of the whole immediate baby thing, but that s definitely a personal preference hide spoiler hide spoiler there were some funny lines throughout the book I love my romance novels with a healthy dose of funny I think I would ve liked it a whole lotif not for the seemingly missing bits the questions about those pieces made me enjoy it less

Hockey books I love hockey books And this comes from a woman who has a mild allergic reaction to anything sports I m not even sure why I like them so much Maybe it s the raw masculinity of the players, or the sheer athleticism of the sport Hell, who knows All I know is I see a book with a hockey player even remotely involved and I m all over it Henrik is your typical player and I don t just mean hockey player The man is known for his exploits with the women, but it s not his prowess in Hockey books I love hockey books And this comes from a woman who has a mild allergic reaction to anything sports I m not even sure why I like them so much Maybe it s the raw masculinity of the players, or the sheer athleticism of the sport Hell, who knows All I know is I see a book with a hockey player even remotely involved and I m all over it Henrik is your typical player and I don t just mean hockey player The man is known for his exploits with the women, but it s not his prowess in the bedroom that has earned Leila s contempt, it s the way that he callously treated her while they were both in college that really sealed the deal Henrik has had his eye on Leila since she was eighteen, but family circumstances and a bro code that says you don t fuck around with your best friend s kid sister kept him from ever acting on his interest Too bad he never really explained that too her Leila is the younger sister of Austin, Henrik s best friend, and she s also the best friend of Drew, Henrik s younger brother Always on the fringes of Henrik s life but never directly involved She s crushed on Henrik from way back but now avoids him whenever possible When Leila finds she needs someone with a certain moral flexibility and specific skill set, Henrik is the convenient and obvious choice to help her exact a little revenge against her cheating boyfriend The road for Henrik and Leila is loaded with pitfalls They ve known each other a long time, but their newly resurrected involvement is founded on mistrust and guilt, and Leila s not going to get over years of being ignored easily Henrik finds himself in a position of actually having to work to stay in Leila s life, as a friend not even as a booty call But I did like that Henrik was not an arrogant ass about it and sincerely worked to win Leila s friendship He may have been fooling himself that friendship was all he wanted, but you have to start somewhere, rightMy only minor issue with this book is that I never really got the importance of the hearts Were they important Or am I reading too much into it I mean, they re pretty and Henrik likes them, but why are there four Is itthan just a commonality that both have tattoos Give me your feedback I would love to know what you think they mean, if anything In the end, it s all the behind the scenes drama that makes this bookthan your typical hockey book There are hidden secrets, family tragedies, professional rivalries, it has it all I thought I knew where this story was going but Blevins actually surprised me with the ending I hope she continues this as a series, because I would love to hearfrom Austin, Drew and Sam.Pet s 0.02
