  2. Matt Matt says:

I listened to this on audiobook The narrator was decent This was a pretty good read The folklore and mythology was interesting and Tim was a good character This is a well done YA novel It doesn’t feel as cheesy as many of the YA novels I’ve read The plot was solid and even the parts where nothing much happened other than chores kept me engaged Changeling’s Island is a nicely written coming of age novel and I enjoyed it

  3. Katy Katy says:

I am torn about this book There is no denying that the finale is a brilliantly written piece of maritime action and the end left me wanting But before that I also cannot deny that I was bored with this book glad it was so shortI will gladly admit this is probably a great book for young readers The conflict and the characters feel real and the plot may be a bit formulaic but works really well There is one emotional impact that serves as a way to make the story forceful instead of shocking I am sure of that because I read dozens of these stories when I was younger and would have loved it thenBut then again today I broadly know how this story is going to work out the characters are too familiar and I don’t really want to read page after page of teenage angst Ironically the book ends as I got into it leaving uestions open that would have been nice to have answeredSo a great read for younger readers but slightly too formulaic for experienced persons Great ending guarded by too much moping for my taste

  5. Mary Catelli Mary Catelli says:

Tim Ryan is not uite caught shoplifting owing to a little help but gets in trouble and finds himself shipped off from Melbourne to an island where his grandmother livesThe source of his help comes too Aed a spirit of air and darkness but it notes that his plane is followed through the waters by a selkieAnd on the island we have the tale of a city mouse in the countryside the tale of a boy growing up and the tale of his heritage and why the selkie came looking for him It involves beer a venomous snake his grandmother's failing sight catching a sheep the small school glad to have one student a key both Irish and Australian folklore and much

  6. Suzanne Hediger Suzanne Hediger says:

Don't pick it up too late in the day you might not put it down till it's done You've been warned

  7. Marsha Valance Marsha Valance says:

Tim Ryan can't shake the feeling that he is different from other teens and not in a good way For one thing he seems to have his own personal poltergeist that causes fires and sets him up to be arrested for shoplifting As a result Tim has been sent to live on a rundown farm on a remote island off the coast of Australia with his crazy grandmother a woman who seems to talk to the local spirits and who refuses to cushion Tim from facing his difficulties To make matters worse Tim is expected to milk cows chase sheep and hunt fish with a spear But he's been exiled to an island alive with ancient magic—land magic that Tim can feel in his bones and sea magic that runs in his blood If Tim can face down the danger from drug runners sea storms and the deadly threat of a seal woman who wishes to steal him away for a lingering death in the land of Faery he may be able to claim the mysterious changeling heritage that is his birthright and take hold of a legacy of power beyond any he has ever imagined

  8. John Davies John Davies says:

This was a good book and I hope Dave writes a seuel to it It's the story of Tim a native of Flinders Island off the coast of Tasmania who is part faerie but doesn't know it He's been living in Melbourne with his mother but after committing theft to impress a girl he gets sent to his Nan on Flinders Island There he meets Molly a local girl his age and meets a local abalone diver who he starts working for He thinks his Nan is crazy with her talk about wee folk but it's all true Tim is being stalked by a selkie a magical sealwoman who wants him to give her the key to Faerie that his ancestor had been given as a half faerie by King Finvarr Aiding Tim is a manikin a faerie who tries to protect him at all costs but has in the past caused Tim trouble without Tim knowing why Tim makes friends falls in love and eventually shows himself to be a hero rescuing a small girl from drowning with the help of Molly and the selkie

  9. Jamie Jamie says:

Tim Ryan is a teenage boy who gets into trouble trying to impress a girl and is sent to stay with his eccentric Nan on a remote island off the coast of Australia She leaves out beer for the invisible wee folk and warns him of a deadly seal woman who has the potential to lure him to his death if he isn't careful when venturing out into the water As first he is annoyed at being exiled with his crazy? or maybe not so crazy after all grandmother but then he starts to build a relationship with her and he begins to grow up I think the author perfectly captures the hopefulness and awkwardness of adolescence as well as the loneliness and insecurity of agingWe read this together as a family and we all really enjoyed it We laughed cried and learned a little about Irish and Aboriginal myths as well as some Australian lingo Mostly we rooted for these characters so much that three months later I am still thinking about them

  10. Kjirstin Kjirstin says:
