“I think the things we desire the most in life are the things that were withheld from us The things we never got from the one person we wanted them from the most” Sole Sisters is the seuel to The Boots My Mother Gave Me which was an absolute five star read for me I fell in love with all the characters the sentiments and the beauty and was so excited to read the seuel I’d highly recommend reading this series in order to get the full enjoyment as well as meet all the characters from their beginnings Brooklyn James is a brilliant Author and her characters are so incredibly real and their story so emotional You will LOVE The Boots My Mother Gave Me and you will revel in Sole Sisters “The demons don’t care if it’s light or dark do they?” “You have them too?” In Sole Sister we catch up with everyone years down the line and much has changed for our Kit Kat as well as Harley and Miah Harley is now a sought after song writer Miah a SWAT officer and Kat is an up and coming designer Their bond is incredibly strong and both are still trying to be at peace with their abusive childhood and old insecurities; Kat in particular is still having recurring nightmares about her Father “You ever wish you had it to do all over again? With someone you could count on?”“As sure as I breathe” Kat’s kismet makes a surprising and much deserved entrance when the gorgeous SWAT Officer Connor Reese enters her life A man who truly sees Kat and whose life mirrors hers in some respects Kat’s scared in fact she’s petrified as her track record hasn’t been great heart break is a devastating feeling Her priority is her teenage daughter as well as her own fragile heart This makes her reluctant to try her hand at a second chance at love Connor’s not having any of that though and their relationship was really uite beautiful mature and inspirational Whilst I did struggle at times as I found that we didn’t get enough detail – instead there seemed to be an over emphasis on Kat’s inner musing and theorising – it did feel real and believable “You want to be fearless?”“I do I really do”“Let’s be fearless Kit Kat” Sole Sister is a beautiful sweet emotional heart warming and hopeful story There’s so many real to life messages in there albeit fiction It shows strength unconditional love and that trusting your heart and letting people in despite fears of being hurt can be truly beautiful A really enjoyable read and a series I highly recommend‘You’re everything I’ve ever dreamed of’ Reviewed from an ARC copy provided by the author with thanks✲✲✲✲✦✦✦ TB Blog TotallybookedBlog✦✦✦ Come say Hi TB on Facebook✦✦✦Follow us TB on Twitter✦✦✦Check out TB on Pinterest✦✦✦ We're on TSU TB on TSU

I think I really did need to read book one first before this one as I have lost a lot of the story and had to pick it up from another angle so I advise you read book 1 unlike meKat never talks about her abusive past its far too painfulAnd her pregnancyShe's moved to Nashville for reasons and also to advance her fashion carer The trouble is she finds her inline for some publicity this makes her front cover of the Ville Spill Its a local gossip rag Kat then learns that not all publicity is good publicityKat's Father committed suicide Her little girl's Daddy broke her heartKat doesn't want or need her heart broken again so she focuses all her attention on her daughter and works hard to make a good life for them bothForgiveness That word is around in this book Holding onto grudges and past can be damning and damaging as Kat finds outMy ThoughtsI found this a well written read and could follow it well all but for the parts I missed out on in book 1 Kat's past is in book 1 which I feel would have made me understand her get to know her But this didn't over ride my concept of the book and how well written it was Its a lovely read which I enjoyed very much

Received a copy in exchange for an honest review“Forgiveness it’s so elusive isn’t it Felt so strongly one moment only to wane out of reach the next But to not forgive to hold onto that condemnation it seeps into every aspect of our life our being like a noxious gas through the crack of a door somehow sabotaging forward progression crippling all that is and can’t be good”5 emotional stars This book is so beautiful and beautifully written The characters are so well written and the story flows so well It’s hard to pull yourself away from the book once you startThe second book in The Boots My Mother Gave Me series Sole Sister picks up several years later continuing the story of Harley LeBeau and her rebellious sister Katrina ‘Kat’ LeBeau Relocating to Nashville to be closer to Harley and Miah Kat aspires to launch her Sole Sister fashion line A gutsy and impromptu plan suddenly lands her on the cover of The Ville Spill—the local celebrity gossip rag—alongside country music’s latest heartthrob giving Sole Sister the push it needs But Kat uickly learns that not all press is good pressYears removed from an abusive childhood and teenage pregnancy the past that Kat never talks about continues to seep into her life and relationships Still struggling with the images of finding her father after his suicide Kat forges ahead vowing to avoid past mistakes To focus on her career and responsibilities as a single mother she swears off the disappointments of love The first man she ever loved her father broke her heart The first boy she ever fell in love with her daughter’s father broke her heartWhat Kat didn’t plan on was Nashville SWAT Officer Connor Reese She and Connor have pulling them together than keeping them apart Kat finds herself in familiar territory when her plan to steer clear of heartache is derailed after spending a night in his arms Will facing her past help to secure her future? Will Connor offer her a second chance at life and love? Or will her heart break yet again?Staying true to its predecessor Sole Sister explores the dynamics of strength in sisterhood the ongoing conflict and unconditional love between mother and daughter and the courage to become than one’s pastFirst of all you have to read book one in order to read this book it’s a continuation from book one The book has a roller coaster ride of events you have to hang on It’s emotional and uplifting all at the same time The book starts with Katrina and her needing to decide what she wants to do with her life After being abused for years she’s now a shell of her previous self But in order to succeed with her Sole Sister fashion line she has to figure out how to get back to herself This book was amazing and so beautiful I highly recommend itReceived a copy in exchange for an honest review Read and reviewed by Melissa for Alpha Book Club

Sole Sister 2015 the second installment to The Boots My Mother Gave Me is about finding forgiveness after two sisters endure the loss of their father to suicide In The Boots My Mother Gave Me 2010 Harley LeBeau leaves Georgia Pennsylvania in search of herself In the midst of chasing her dream of becoming a singer she falls in love with neighbor boy Jeremiah 'Miah' Johnson elopes to Hawaii and gives birth to twins Gia and Jackson all with her almond intact and with Charlene the Chevelle barrelling through on auto pilotSole Sister is the continuation of Harley's life as a daughter sister aunt mother wife and singersongwriter told from Kat's point of view Kat learns to do life with a teenage daughter while giving entrepreneurship the good ol' college try in lifting her business off the ground Of course Sole Sister wouldn't be a Brooklyn James kind of read without a love story and with some hot and steamy romanceJames takes her readers to that place of vulnerability that gives the uintessential meaning to family career and love while finding the balance to make each work independently and simultaneously If you're a single woman in search of her soulmate you need to read this book If you're a childless woman wantingneeding children you need to read this book If you're a teenage girl you need to read this book And if you're a grammy you need to read this book Brooklyn James does a terrific job of bridging the gap of three generations of sisterhoodI found myself angry frustrated happy sad and irritated I also found myself laughing out loud with purpose I was excited for new found opportunity yet angry at haters hating on success I was giddy with Harley's and Kat's sisterly love and playfulness No one can uite tell Harley to shut to her candy hole uite like Kat I was also sad to experience the roaring anger of oppressing the feelings of their father's suicide but relieved when forging forgivenessJames has the uncanny ability to pull her readers through a compelling story while capturing intense visualizations with intention She keeps it genuine and real It's a page turner to bootSole Sister is the heart and soul of The Boots My Mother Gave Me

In the first book The Boots My Mother Gave me we meet sisters Harley and Kat The first book focused on how Harley was the subject of abuse from her father and introduces us to the boy who saved her Jeremiah and her prized possession from Benny her first car Charlene In Sole Sister many years have passed and Harley is married to Jeremiah and has children and of course her car Charlene is still going solid Harley is now a songwriter and musician and her sister Kat designs boots inspired by of course their mother's love of cowboy boots This book starts with the sisters headed to Nashville where Harley has been given the opportunity to grow her music career and Jeremiah has a spot in the Nashville SWAT team and Kat has decided to open her own shop called Sole Sister As we all know books must have a conflict point and in Sole Sister it comes the day after the music awards where Harley should be celebrating her win for new Songwriter on the scene but instead she is forced into a situation to try and save her marriage as the paparazzi caught a picture of the welcome kiss by Shooter a new singer on the block and blown it out of proportion Is her career worth throwing her marriage and children away for ? Can Harley have both pieces of the pie or will she discover that sometimes for the journey of happiness to work sacrifices must be made in order to save the ones you love ? For Kat though the publicity has been great for her as she is being inudated with calls from people wanting boots designed also a new love interest in the form of an Aussie SWAT team member seems to be looming on the horizon for Kat Will the sisters finally get the happiness that they deserve and long overdue or will they discover that fame and fortune isn't what it is cracked up to be and nothing matters if you don't have the love and support of family behind youFind out in Brooklyn James's new book Sole Sister

Katrina “Kat” LeBeau is packing up to move her and her daughter Megan to Nashville so they can be closer to Kat’s sister Harley LeBeau Johnson and her family Kat has been trying to rewrite her life and this seems like the perfect opportunity Harley is married with two children and making a name for herself in the music world Kat has plans of her own with “Soul Sister” where she designs custom boots The girls find themselves on the cover of a local rag The Ville Spill which propels them into the celebrity gossip spotlight Though Kat’s intentions were good the publicity could end up destroying Harley’s marriage while boosting the girls’ careers As a single mother Kat had no plans to get involved with another man until she meets SWAT officer Connor Reese He is a single father and they just seem to click immediately As the prior men in her life let her down will Kat be able to trust Connor enough to let him in to her heart and life? This book is the seuel to James’s debut The Boots My Mother Gave Me taking place seven years after the first book While there is some background information included throughout this story it is definitely recommended to read the books in order Doing so allows the reader to follow the sisters through the good and bad times as well as understand and appreciate the differences and how they deal with their past which included an abusive and alcoholic fatherThis is a compelling tale that bridges the generations It showcases the bonds of sisterhood forgiveness love and acceptance of the fact that no one is fully defined by the past As is typical of James’s other books there are also some steamy romance scenes James writes in a way that leaves the reader caring about the characters and the outcome of the storyDisclaimer I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

How long I have waited for this book and how worth the wait it was Harley’s story in ‘The Boots My Mother Gave Me’ was one of the most intense and incredible journeys I have ever had the pleasure of reading and I became so attached to the LeBeau girls and their loves and losses that the chance to see Kat’s life after all the pain inflicted on her was something very important to meFrom the word go ‘Sole Sister’ grabbed me into the world of Kat and Harley LeBeau and I felt like I’d never left Kat’s journey into the fashion design business and how Harley’s fame as a songwriter catapults Kat’s name into the media was great fun The loving easy going yet still definitely sibling like relationship between the two was as special in this book as in its predecessorConnor was the perfect hero to Kat’s heroine and I adored their relationship The time jump at the beginning of the book made me all the eager to see the two get together as sparks flew from the pages whenever they came across each other The way that Brooklyn James identified the challenges of single parents dating whilst trying to keep their children’s happiness as a priority was perfectly done and I really felt the strength of a familial bond not by blood but by shared love and affectionThe subject of Kat’s past abuse from both her father and ex boyfriend are very much key issues in this book and it made for some very emotional reading to see how desperately Kat wants to save her daughter from being abused as she was As with in ‘Boots’ in ‘Sole Sister’ this issue is detailed with a perfect balance of sad reality and sensitivityWith the added bonus of cameos and even a whole scene to themselves of Harley and Miah with their family ‘Sole Sister’ was everything I hoped it would be and it was SO worth the waitThank you Brooklyn James5 Stars

Big thanks to Brooklyn and Charlotte for an ARC copy for review I just loved Kat and Connor's story I was so exited when I found out that Brooklyn was giving Harley's young sister Kat her own book Just like her older sister I wanted Kat and her daughter Megan to get their happily ever after especially with everything that they went through in the past These girls deserve the best It's a story of new beginnings opening your heart to love again letting to of the past and finding unexpected and true happiness Our main character Kat is a strong independent successful woman and a wonderful mother to her daughter She has definitely grown so much from the first book Then there is Connor a fellow member of SWAT team who works with Micah Johnson He handsome has an Australian accent loving protective and great father to his son With a chance meeting between Kat and Connor there is definite attraction The relationship they had was nice and slow building but was boy was it passionate They connected so well especially when it to their past relationships and childhood home life's Fate has a way of bringing people together and it's aligning the stars for this couple Of course I loved seeing Harley Micah and their kids as well as Kat and Harley's mother The ending was very sweet and I couldn't be happier with how things turned out for Kat Connor and their family
