I really enjoyed this book It starts with Emma an energetic 24 year old working in the War Office in London during WWI There she gets a taste for an independent life where she is capable and can contribute to something meaningful She also develops a taste for an Australian soldier These two things combine to give her the courage to make the one way trip from England to Australia in 1920 all on her ownOf course this is really just the beginning of Emma's story The man she followed the city she thought she'd make her home the life she thought she'd lead all wavered before her eyes and if they didn't totally vanish they certainly became something different than what she'd imagined Through it all Emma retains her confidence in her own ability and keeps her optimistic outlook as she takes things yep One Step at a TimeThis book isn't a sappy romance it's a life drama about a time and place that are near enough to be somewhat familiar but different enough to allow us to enjoy curling up with for the pleasant hours it takes to read
