Four Nights is a set of cozy mysteries combined with clean romance and travel based fiction featuring the cleverly named Aurora Night travel writerBooks 1 through 3 are narrated by Aurora herself; the fourth book which is a seuel to book 2 is narrated in third person although mainly from Aurora's point of viewI found the first person narration engaging because it gives a well rounded picture of Aurora young impulsive ambitious with a thirst for adventure and a tendency to mess up In the first three books she is teamed up with her army veteran dad which presents opportunities for father daughter banter and misunderstandings The other important character is Ben a Patagonian gaucho who features in books 2 and 4Things I liked vivid descriptions of the settings Costa Rica Kauai and Patagonia including insights into history and culture Lots of action scenes some of which are described in detail second by second as they unfold Aurora's uirkiness sometimes gets her into funny situations Up to a point I found Aurora's insights into life and relationships enriched the storiesThings I found problematic Choppy pacing; an action scene sometimes freezes while a character thinks things out or undergoes a realization Lack of continuity between books; except for books 2 and 4 which is a seuel to 2 absolutely no mention is ever made of events or people featured in previous books It's as though Aurora wipes her memory clean at the end of each adventure Occasional lumpy prose especially in books 3 and 4 At times I found Aurora's insights into life and relationships kind of clunky and didacticAll in all this is a fun uick read perfect for armchair travelers who like a little romance and mystery on the sideI acuired this book as a free download on Smashwords
