“Giulia is a sympathetic well drawn character who has built a full life for herself after she leaving the convent but appealing touches of the former nun remain” – Booklist“Driscoll’s second solo turn as a sleuth after Nun Too Soon offers a fun and fast read with a lot of appeal” – Library Journal

Former nun turned PI Giulia Driscoll’s newest client is MacAllister Stone aka Mac Mac runs a bed and breakfast in her family’s old non working lighthouse Lately something sinister seems to be at work at the bed and breakfast with possible ties to the legend of a family ghost Giulia and her husband Frank go undercover as guests But this job is turning out to be rougher than it sounds as the strange events seem to be increasing in freuency Before Giulia finds the culprit she will have to determine if she is looking for a ghost or a flesh and blood villainGiulia spends the first few chapters wrapping up her current cases before heading to the bed and breakfast so the main mystery gets off to a slow start Once it does begin we are treated to plenty of mysterious events until Giulia brings it to a logical and satisfying conclusion The characters are wonderful The new cast grow as the book progresses but I love spending time with the regulars They’re one reason why the opening chapters were still so much fun These characters have such great chemistry with each other including teasing each other and that humor kept me smiling if not laughing throughout the book The book does have a smattering of foul language certainly than the cozies I normally read but that is worth noting only in passing If you are looking for a delightful getaway this is the book to pick upRead my full review at Carstairs Considers

Written by a former nun about a former nun who has opened her own private investigator business Driscoll Investigations This book and possibly the whole series is the epitome of cosy mysteries and perfect for any age Don’t be put off by the premise of a ghost in the blurb if the supernatural genre isn’t your thing as long as you like solving mysteries you’ll enjoy the ride in this story Humorous at times serious and heartwarming I enjoyed reading ‘Second to Nun’ and would happily read in the future by this author35 stars

My TakeOur Nun turned PI has taken on a new case and this time she takes her Detective hubby along with her to solve the mystery of the haunted lighthouse turned bed breakfast Due to a tarot reading the owner received she was prompted to hire the PI and her agency to help bring down the ghost that has been haunting her establishment Of course Giulia does not believe in ghosts and so she believes this haunting is of the very much alive person variety So she and detective hubby sign into the Lighthouse BB as a couple just wanting a bit of a vacayHubby has to take a day or two to get his current cases under wraps before he can join Giulia at the BB so she starts out the book on her own Which is fine with her because she is good on her own when in investigation modeShe visits the home office a couple of times in order to find a better wifi signal but later they discover a great hot spot on the beach between a few businesses She checks out the background of all the guestsThis is when all the good stuff starts to happen the real haunting juicy things that try to convince Giulia that a real ghost presides there But she is not deterred There are many twists and turns that will keep a reader interested all the way to the end of the novel I really appreciate when the author doesn't take the easy way out I totally enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone Definitely check this one out folks This is book two in a series Nun too Soon is the title of book one4 StarsI received this as an ARC Advanced Reader Copy from Net Galley in return for an honest review I thank Net Galley the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this titlehttpbeautysleuthbookdivablogspot

Giulia Driscoll is admittedly skeptical about taking the case of the haunted lighthouse After all in her line of work the criminals are often cheating spouses or embezzling accountants not ghosts and specters Still the case intrigues Giulia as does the open invitation to take up temporary residence at the Bed Breakfast where these hauntings are supposedly taking place Giulia uickly enlists her husband Frank's help couching the reuest in the guise of a much needed couple's get away As soon as Giulia arrives strange things do indeed start happening But Giulia and Frank are absolutely convinced that logical rational and entirely human explanations exist for them all Second to Nun has a great mix of excitement and suspense and author Alice Loweecey knows how to end her chapters on the perfect note to make you want to keep reading the story Giulia's crew keeps me in stitches; a little laughter is always a great touch in a book With Halloween right around the corner Second to Nun is the perfect cozy up with a coffee read You'll enjoy the story the characters and the ghostly mystery for sureI received this book free from the publisher through NetGalley I thank them for their generosity In exchange I was simply asked to write an honest review and post it The opinions I have expressed are my own I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR Part 255 “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising

Is there buried treasure? Can Mac keep her BB afloat? And how many ways can The Scoop tell the same storyThis is my first Alice Loweecey cosy mystery and I really liked it It felt stiff in spots but it was overall uite entertaining keeping you guessing as it unfolded It's a page turner for sure

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest reviewDriscoll Investigations is hired to evict the family ghost haunting Stone's Throw Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast But Guilia Driscoll and her husband Frank soon find out that there are suspects than the otherworldly kind And the legend of hidden gold adds than enough motive for attempted murder Things get nasty when the owner almost falls to her death from the Widow's Walk and Guilia is pushed down a flight of stairs by a flying clown doll Could it be the owner herself? The psychic who channels the spirit of the family ghost? One of the guests staying at the BB who wants to open their own Inn? The ex nun and her husband and Driscoll Investigations are great I've never read any of the Guilia Driscoll series Second to Nun is the second in the series except for a short preuel but it won't be my last I intend to seek out the first book Changing Habits to find out how Guilia became Mrs Driscoll and became a private investigator This is Mystery Lite and is a refreshing read I highly recommend

I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review“Second to Nun” is a good old fashioned crime novel – no murders or depraved villains but plenty of skulduggery family skeletons in the closet the odd dose of psychic mischief and a dogged private detective in ex nun Giulia Driscoll There are no horrors here for the sensitive readers and you could happily buy this book for your maiden aunt – or give it to children to read The story runs along nicely and the whodunnit is not resolved until right near the end As usual there are many likely suspects for Giulia to work through – including the woman who hired her to solve the mystery of the poltergeist at the Stone’s Throw Bed and Breakfast The book is very easy to read while still maintaining interest throughout with a twisting plot I could see this being a successful pre watershed TV series Not a book for those who like their crime novels dark but a very relaxing enjoyable read for readers who yearn for a less wicked world

This is book two in the Giuila Driscoll mystery series featuring ex nun and private investigator Giuila Office life is busy when you are trying to catch cheating husbands and other dishonest people so when Giuila gets an unusual work offer to come stay at a scenic bed and breakfast at a lighthouse she jumps at the chance especially when she can bring along her lovely husband Frank Something spooky is happening at the bed and breakfast and its owner believes there is a ghost trying to cause great harm that could be potentially fatal it's up to Giuila and Frank to find out what exactly is going on before someone is found dead This was the first time I read a book in this series and I truly loved it's setting and characters Giuila makes a great main character and if the last page is anything to go by we are in for an exciting book 3 in this series I received a review copy from the lovely people over at Netgalley
