Oh I liked this book Dominiue Francon writes in a style that is witty smart and one newbies to Buddhism can be comfortable with Her stated aim for this book is “to help you understand Buddhism from the ground level from a totally introductory standpoint so that you can take from it what you’d like This book isn't to convert you to any religion everyone knows that as far as conversions go Buddhists are probably the least likely but it instead aims to guide you towards understanding what had been the dominant eastern religion for over 2000 years”This book will helpful to people from all religions especially the very practical bits about meditation She writes in a typically Buddhist style with a “friendly pen” toward other religions “In the end all any of these religions aim to do is give us hope The main difference with Buddhism is that it aims to teach us to find hope from within ourselves rather than seeking outside advice or saviors It tells us that only we can help ourselves It’s existentialist in that way and shockingly modern”I had a good laugh where she writes about the first of the Four Noble Truths “The first truth is that there is suffering in the world We may know this phrase as ‘Shit happens’”

I really enjoyed this book It gave me exactly what I was looking for in this type of book I wanted information about Buddhism on introductory level and I wanted to know how I could incorporate some of the ideas into my daily life without being labeled Buddhist The thought process and daily routine make this such a great way for anyone to put some calm into our hectic lives The author did a great job explaining and giving examples simply and clearly I would recommend this book for anyone just wanted to understand a different way of life

AwfulPlease if universally want to learn about Buddhism avoid this book The author makes several inaccurate statemients such as Buddhism is about self importance What?? I just can't put I to words how thoroughly disgusted I am with this book Don't waste your time reading this drivel

A decent primerThis was a good starting point but I think it glossed over much of the history and beliefs to focus on meditation
