It is so refreshing to have a good series that I can refer 2nd and 3rd grade students to when they have tired of Junie B Jones And Marty McGuire is not silly or foolish acting she's a real kid with real problems that kids can relate to In this latest adventure Marty starts a pet sitting business in order to help raise money to adopt a monkey at a sanctuary where her mother is volunteering In an attempt to not disappoint her clients Marty takes it upon her self to read books about the animals she will care for but it's the animals she doesn't know about that become trouble than she can handle alone

Marty McGuire has too many pets written by Kate Messner with illustrations by Brian Floca is as fresh spirited and humorous as its predecessors Marty McGuire is a girl who knows what she wants going after it with the purposeful passion singular in boys and girls her age Readers will fall in love with her all over againMy full review

Marty McGuire has too many pets By Kate Messner illustrated by Brian Floca – Realistic Fiction – 2nd3rd grade and up – Absolutely enjoyed every moment of this book from Marty having the best of intentions to her inspiration to fundraise to help a local organization to the explosion of issues that occur when she overcommits Personally I loved the portion of the book that reflects on Marty dealing with taking care of a hedgehog since I’m a former over 12 years ago hedgehog owner Love how the message that even when you try to follow through on your commitments you might not achieve what you hope in the way you thought it out

When Marty's mom goes to help at a chimpanzee sanctuary for a week Marty wants a way to help too She decides to raise the money to adopt a chimpanzee even though you don't really get to have one live with you She and her friend Annie start a pet sitting service A few of the teachers at her school are going to a conference and they uickly end up with a variety of pets to watch that they sneak into the house without Marty's father or grandmother knowing Things take an unexpected turn when two of the pets escape from their cages Can Marty and her friends find the pets before their owners return? A fun adventure with a feisty heroine Recommended for grades 1 4

  9. Heather Heather says:

The irrepressible Marty McGuire is at is again this time with a well intentioned plan to sponsor a chimp at a wildlife preserve Her fundraising plan is a pet sitting venture and as usual she bites off than she can chew What makes Marty special is her passion for nature and animals; she is committed to caring for the pets correctly responsibly does her research As in previous books the trouble stems from where Marty's untempered enthusiasm to do a good thing meets the boundary of good sense But this makes her a sympathetic heroine who adventures are fun humorous to read

  10. Anastasia Tuckness Anastasia Tuckness says:

Marty McGuire books are fun realistic beginning chapter books about a girl and how her good heart sometimes gets her in trouble She reminds me a little of Clementine and Violet MackerelIn this one she offers to pet sit which seems harmless but it's during a time when her animal phobic grandma is watching her and the pets multiply in both number and size By the end she has snakes mice slugs a parrot and and not all of them play nicely together Sure to be enjoyed by kids who like real life books and animal books
