Wants by Kasey Michaels and I have to ask Sincerely ask What the insert expletive here did I just read What s going on And, by the way ked does, there may be spoilers ahead who knows, I m so confused, I don t know what I may be giving away.Ok, so we have Gideon, our hero, and Jessica, our heroine So far, so good We also have the beginning of a new series about the Redgrave family, Gideon being the eldest in the group Future books will be about Max, who wears glasses with blue tinted lenses I don t know why, maybe they re x ray glasses and he s able to see through things Val, the nice one who likes dogs, and cats and fluffy things, which I m sure he ll run into in his own book Kate, the beautiful headstrong sister who also has all the ear marks of an energetic nose sticker in er aka TSTL heroine and lastly, Trixie, the wise cracking grandmother She s too old for her own book, cause you know Romanceland is not ready for sex scenes between a 70 year old woman and 20 year old men. There is also a mystery who s murdering all the people There are people dropping like flies all over the place We suspect the father of Jessica was murdered and the step mother, and Lord Who s It and Lord What s It And it all revolves around the secret hellfire society founded by Gideon s grandfather passed down to his father But some one s killing the old members, no wait someone s killing the new members, someone s going to kill Jessica because she knows what I don t know what she knows We must protect her half brother Adam because he s a son of a member of the secret society no wait cancel that the new society isn t doing that anyAnd we know that because I don t know And, Trixie thinks there are secret books and journals that have names of the old secret society people But, wait we don t care about them any because there are new secret society people with new secret names There are guys that wear black masks and rose lapel pins and have dark mysterious eyes or strikingly blue eyes.Have your eyes glazed over yet Is there a ringing in your ears Well wait I did mention the red rose pin, didn t I You see, Gideon wore the lapel pin which was his father s because he wanted the people in the secret society to know he knew, but then he had second thoughts Especially after he met Jessica and had forced seduction sex with her and married her, then hadgratuitous sex with her Then, he found out there was a new secret society, and wearing the rose pin wasn t such a good idea So, he decided to just go hide in the country with Jessica where they could havesex and be safe In fact, Trixie, Adam and Richard all go hide in the country, because the guy with the blue eyes might know who Jessica and Richard really are I suspect the guy with the blue eyes is going to be a future hero, even though he was wearing a French uniform when Jessica and Richard first saw him Wait waitwho s Richard Well, Richard is Jessica s partner in an illegal gambling house that she has established in her neighborhood They of course must shut the gambling house down when they go hide in the country But, that s ok because Jessica was worried that running a gambling house might ruin her standing in society and Almack s if anyone found out she was running one Seriously, Jessica You don t think that your neighbors might be suspicious of men coming and going to and from your house at all hours of the night I know the light bulb would go off in my head And then there s Napoleon, traitors and spies Groan.Someone stop the merry go round, I want to get off. This book could have been so much better if it had just been just a romance or if the mystery wasn t so convoluted There were so many unfinished sentences, things hinted at and left unsaid I felt as if I was supposed to know things and I was failing miserably Normally, I am a big fan of Kasey Michaels She has been one of my auto buys, even when she went by the name of Michelle Kasey There are some wonderful gems in her body of work However, this one was a disappointment and didn t live up to the expectations I have of Ms Kasey.KaysBlog

OK, so I enjoy the occasional Regency romp with a bit of spying on the side, and Ms Michaels writes them so well This is a new mini series of 4 books, I think, since there are 3 brothers and a sister involved , and obviously the back story has to be laid well enough that one will continue with the rest There was an awful lot of telling and not much doing , so that may put off some people but the protagonists actually make all that worthwhile Gideon Redgrave, the Earl of the title of Sal OK, so I enjoy the occasional Regency romp with a bit of spying on the side, and Ms Michaels writes them so well This is a new mini series of 4 books, I think, since there are 3 brothers and a sister involved , and obviously the back story has to be laid well enough that one will continue with the rest There was an awful lot of telling and not much doing , so that may put off some people but the protagonists actually make all that worthwhile Gideon Redgrave, the Earl of the title of Saltwood is arrogant, and domineering, and very confident of his place in society an attitude he manufactures to cover the past scandals of his father and grandfather BUT, he has a sense of humour, a kind heart, a skill at ridiculing others as well as himself, and an infinite amount of patience.Which he needs when he meets Jessica Linden, a young widow, running a clandestine gambling house, and half sister of Adam who has recently been made Gideon s ward She is vibrant, passionate, innately strong but with a colouring of tragedy The scandals of the past of both Gideon s and Jessica s fathers is the underlying threat to both of their lives which come to the fore with the accidental deaths or murders of a number of prominent members of the Ton.It s a grand story, a not nice background of power, greed and depravity but the enjoyment for me comes with the incredible characterisations of the people involved Watching Gideon and Jessica learning to trust and fall in love with each other, is spiced with a one two repartee which cannot be faulted The Dowager Countess Trixie, of all names short for Beatrice of course is a complete and utter scene stealer Adam, Jessica s half brother who only appears in a few scenes is so well detailed as a young, idiotic, foppish wag about town that one is sure there will be no redemption for him several LOL moments had me in tears just imagining it Kate, a whirlwind of an appearance, but completely unforgettable it s her story next and Max and Val, Gideon s younger brothers, make two very impressive men that one just HAS to fall in love with So, great fun, clever dialogue, a dark secret running throughout, the threat of Napoleon and war, and threebooks to come wow

Kasey Michaels opens her series with the Redgraves with a real winner This is one of the few regency romances that I ve read that didn t leave me frustrated with one orof the characters Jessica is a smart no nonsense heroine, who believe it or not doesn t do anything stupid that jeopardizes her life in the whole book Wow I thought that was a requirement of regency romance All heroines must be kidnapped or nearly killed by a dastardly villain in the last 40 pages. And there s a real intr Kasey Michaels opens her series with the Redgraves with a real winner This is one of the few regency romances that I ve read that didn t leave me frustrated with one orof the characters Jessica is a smart no nonsense heroine, who believe it or not doesn t do anything stupid that jeopardizes her life in the whole book Wow I thought that was a requirement of regency romance All heroines must be kidnapped or nearly killed by a dastardly villain in the last 40 pages. And there s a real intrigue in this story Gideon s grandfather had started a hellfire club, that his son continued The point of the club involves all sorts of naughty things as well as a plot to remove the monarchy Jessica and Gideon uncover all of this as a result of her wanting to gain custody of her half brother Adam, who is really a halfwit Somehow the custody battle between the two takes a back burner to the intrigue, and Jess and Giddy s relationship blossoms Even though these two find it hard to say, I love you, their relationship grows, and wonder of wonders, there s really no conflict between the two.How did that happen The story really involves the two of them sleuthing out the deaths of some of the Society members including her father and step mother The intrigue definitely keeps the pages turning, mostly because of Trixie, Gideon s grandmother.OMG, she is the best character ever.It isn t often you have a 70 year old lady send a note around to her grandson, because she was sleeping with a man, and he happened to expire during the act Yes So funny I have to say, I loved all the Redgraves, and though I am heartily sick of every historical romance being part of some series or another, this is one I will definitely follow, especially if the next book is as good as this one My only gripe is the ending It lacked a little resolution I would have liked something to have been resolved at the end of this book except for the fact the Society wasn t going to go after her brother

This started off interesting then became somewhat labored halfway through It did redeem it s self towards the end and I was able to finish it Some of the issues I had with the book was that events kind of seemed to jump around in regards to the secret society There were several times I thought I had skipped pages because there didn t seem to be a Segway from one event to the next many things are hinted at, but never adequately explained and I thought I had missed snips of conversations etc This started off interesting then became somewhat labored halfway through It did redeem it s self towards the end and I was able to finish it Some of the issues I had with the book was that events kind of seemed to jump around in regards to the secret society There were several times I thought I had skipped pages because there didn t seem to be a Segway from one event to the next many things are hinted at, but never adequately explained and I thought I had missed snips of conversations etc There was an old society, new society, then all of a sudden no one cared about either society Gideon, who originally wanted to get his father s corpse back, didn t give a moments thought to it a quarter of the way through the book More importantly, why didn t he go home to find out about the giant hole s Many of the characters actions made little sense. Also, Jessica, the heroine, originally was trying to gain guardianship of her half brother Yet, he only was present for a few pages of the book, in fact halfway through the book, we never heard about him again and Jessica, once seeing he was a dandy, basically ditched him no joke, she literally told the hero he could keep him and walked out the door Also, the book is part of a series, the reader is left hanging on how the whole secret society investigation ends, in order to gain an audience for the subsequent books While that s understandable, the author really didn t endear me to the other two gentleman who willthen likely play a prominate role in the next books She solely relies on the mystery to get readers to continue on with the story Also, the hero s character was not developed that well the first chapter is really all we learn about him I felt that the first 3 chapters were really the best writing of this book, after it kind of went all over the place with little character development
