    This book delivered so muchthan I thought it would Especially in the earlier chapters, Bess weaves together economic, political, environmental, technological, and philosophical histories into an enlightening and holistic picture of contemporary French society While some particular aspects of the French case were unfamiliar to me, there was always enough reference tofamiliar histories for comparison and context so that I never felt I was missing anything While the later chapters of This book delivered so muchthan I thought it would Especially in the earlier chapters, Bess weaves together economic, political, environmental, technological, and philosophical histories into an enlightening and holistic picture of contemporary French society While some particular aspects of the French case were unfamiliar to me, there was always enough reference tofamiliar histories for comparison and context so that I never felt I was missing anything While the later chapters of the book became a bit overly detailed in their lists and descriptions of specific bureaucratic agencies and legislative acts, and sometimes technological specifications, overall I genuinely enjoyed reading this and found it gave me a lot to think about
